'Lock It or Lose It' Police Stickers Now Available

New campaign is meant to reduce car burglaries and to remind residents not to leave valuables in their vehicles.

During the month of March, 11 Plainfield residents had items stolen from their cars. Compared to other cites, the number's not huge. But in a town like Plainfield, where the most serious crimes seem to be speeding, criminal damage to property and marijuana possession, the numbers add up -- especially given that the crime is largely avoidable had the victims locked their cars and taken valuable items with them. To that end, the Plainfield Police Department is launching a new "Lock It or Lose It" campaign in which residents are asked to voluntarily affix stickers to their car windows, according to Sgt. Suspects Sought in RoSal's, Tortilla Flatz Burglaries

Police say both break-ins were "smash and grabs" in which the burglar headed straight to the register and absconded with cash.

Plainfield police continue to investigate a rash of Thanksgiving night burglaries in which money was taken from two restaurants and a window broken on a private school bus, Police Chief John Konopek said. The "smash and grab" break-ins occurred overnight Nov. 27 at RoSal's Pizza and Tortilla Flatz Mexican Grill, both located in the strip mall at 13717 U.S. 30. The Goddard School , a pre-school/after-school center, is located not far from there at 24829 W. 135th St. Given the locations, police believe the incidents are likely related, Konopek said. The suspect or suspects entered the two restaurants by breaking out a front doors, he said. They headed straight to the cash registers and did not take anything else, he said. All three incidents…
