Police say the suspect was observed stuffing the merchandise into his shirt; he's been charged with retail theft and burglary.
A man observed stuffing $1,000 in cosmetics down his shirt at a local CVS store was arrested Monday by Plainfield police. Antonio Rivera, 34, 4602 S. Fairfield Ave., Chicago, faces burglary and retail theft charges in connection with the incident, which occurred shortly before noon at the 11840 S. Route 59 store. A store clerk watched Rivera stealing the merchandise and then followed him out as he left, Detective Sgt. Kevin McQuaid said. When she saw he was headed to a nearby Kohl’s store, she called the police. Officers apprehended Rivera as he left the department store and were able to recover the stolen CVS merchandise, McQuaid said. Tomas Rascati admits injuring his father's pet but offers no explanation, police say.
A Plainfield man who so severely abused a pet cat that the animal's eye had to be removed has been charged with aggravated cruelty to an animal and criminal injury to a domestic animal. Tomas Rascati, 21, 14920 S. Arnold St., was arrested by Plainfield police at about 1 a.m. Wednesday. He has admitted to abusing the cat but provided no explanation for his behavior, according to a media statement released by Police Chief John Konopek. Animal Care Center, a Plainfield veterinary clinic, alerted police to the case at about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Konopek said. Naperville police arrested a Plainfield man Thursday who they say was dealing illegal drugs and was in possession of a dangerous weapon. The department's Special Operations Group headed up the investigation, which led them to Ronald T. Lamanna, 45, of the 7100 block of Alden Drive in Plainfield. He was arrested around 7 p.m. Thursday in the 3300 block of Mall Loop Drive in Joliet, according to the police report. "He was transported to the Will County Jail and his charges are Class 2 felonies," Naperville Police Sgt. Gregg Bell said Friday. A Plainfield man who threatened to kill his Jewish neighbors has been arrested and charged with a hate crime, Plainfield Cmdr. Anthony Novak said Friday. Jacob D. Kozak, 23, 14925 Bartlett Ave., was taken into custody Thursday after the Will County state's attorney approved charges and issued an arrest warrant in connection with an incident that occurred earlier this month, Novak said. Police were called at about 5:15 p.m. March 10 on a complaint that Kozak was having a verbal altercation outside his house with the couple who live in a nearby home, he said. More than three months after he was arrested, William Curl has been formally indicted on charges that he murdered Antinette "Toni" Keller, a Plainfield woman killed while a student at Northern Illinois Unversity. A DeKalb County grand jury indictment was handed down Friday, according to a report in the DeKalb Daily Chronicle. Curl was indicted on five counts of first-degree murder, one count of concealing a homicidal death, one count of arson and one count of criminal sexual assault. A presumption of innocence is a dandy thing and should always be applied initially. However, if one performs an act that is a felony AND admits that they did it, even without explaining why they did it, I would question the presumption of innocence until PROVEN guilty because their admission of guilt seems to nullify the need to prove guilt.
