Plainfield Lights Up the Holidays: Map Shows the Area's Best-Decorated Homes

We've updated our map of festively decorated Plainfield homes.

Plainfield Tot Meets Santa

Jensen Lage was one of 100 hearing-impaired kids who got to meet St. Nick himself on Dec. 13.

Jensen Lage of Plainfield, 1, was apprehensive about meeting Santa recently, even while being held by his mom Jennifer. The Lages were among 200 persons who attended a pizza and holiday gifts party for 100 hearing-impaired kids and their caregivers and teachers in Aurora Dec. 13. Jennifer Lage is an audiologist for the Sycamore-based Northeastern Illinois Association, party co-sponsor with the Aurora Noon Lions Club. Center is  Jeanne McDonald of Naperville, deaf teacher at Allen Elementary School in Aurora. The NIA, a regional special-education cooperative, serves children with special needs--autism, hearing impairment, vision impairment--from communities including Aurora, Geneva, and Sandwich in 10 northern Illinois counties. .

What's Open in Plainfield on Christmas

For your dining, driving and last-minute food and gift-giving pleasure, a handful of businesses are open on a day when most of us are celebrating.

This Christmas Day, not everyone will be basking in the glow of the family hearth feeling nothing but goodwill toward men after downing a huge feast and tearing open a bounty of presents. Some folks will be manning cash registers, working in kitchens and overseeing gas pumps to guarantee you can not only get to grandma's house, but that you can pick up that last-minute bottle of booze, box of candy or present for Aunt Mildred along the way. And just in case the Bumpus' hounds make off with your turkey, several Chinese restaurants will be open for your dining pleasure. Some local watering holes will open up late in the day. Here are some places you may or may not know are open on Christmas: RELATED: The Reason for the Season: Plainfield …

Plainfield Police Plan Holiday Crackdown

Tips for staying safe during celebrations this Christmas and New Year's.

Editor's note: The following is a press release issued by the Plainfield Police Department: The Plainfield Police Department will participate in the 2012 Holiday “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over/Click It or Ticket” crackdown. This intensified enforcement effort against drunk drivers and seat belt law violators underscores the disproportionate number of traffic deaths caused by alcohol and failure to buckle up. The stepped-up enforcement began Dec. 17 and will run through New Year’s Eve. Enforcement efforts will concentrate on the deadly nighttime hours between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. Please designate a sober driver and DO NOT let friends and family drive drunk as just two of several simple steps to avoid a tragic crash or an arrest for drunk …

Kids Help Kids: Plainfield Brothers Sell Artwork to Benefit Children's Hospital

Ryan and Josh McKeown have blown away their $100 fundraising goal.

A pair of Plainfield brothers has come up with a creative way to help other kids this Christmas. Walker's Grove Elementary students Ryan McKeown , 8, and little brother Josh, 6, are putting their artistic talent to good use, selling their artwork to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Ryan said he was watching TV one Saturday morning when he saw a commercial about a 9-year-old boy who launched an effort to help others. As he and Josh sat at their Plainfield home, drawing and coloring pictures, they got an idea for a way they could give back, too. Sign up for the Plainfield Patch newsletter. “We were drawing pictures and I thought that would be easy,” Ryan said. So the boys and their mom, Nikki, started brainstorming, trying to …

Plainfield: Show Us Your Lights

Share photos and videos of your holiday display on Patch, or just tell us where we can see great lights in Plainfield.

By now, you should know about Patch’s “Deck the House” contest, which launched this month and gives dedicated decorators the chance to win $100,000 for their local school district by entering photos or videos of their holiday light displays. (You can check out Plainfield entries and cast your vote by clicking here.) There’s also the Plainfield Park District’s outdoor holiday decorating contest — the deadline to enter that one is Dec. 12, and winners will be announced Dec. 19. But we can’t all be Clark Griswold. Maybe your holiday display is a little more low key — or maybe you’re just not the contest-entering type. That’s no reason to hide your light. We think your holiday display deserves to be shared. So we’re asking Plainfield holiday …
