Comcast Doubling Speed for Chicago-Area Customers

Customers who get the company’s Blast!, Extreme 50 and Performance plans will enjoy faster Internet, downloads.

Comcast announced some good news for many of its customers in Chicagoland Tuesday, saying it will increase the speeds of two of its most popular XFINITY Internet speed plans, Blast! and Extreme 50, in the greater Chicago region next month for no additional cost. Customers will enjoy more than twice as fast Internet speeds on multiple devices, allowing them to surf, chat, stream HD movies and TV shows, or game online with double the speed, according to a press release from the company. A rep for Comcast said speed will increase for the Blast! And Extreme 50 plans in mid- to late March. In April, Comcast will also increase the speed of a third package, known as the Performance plan, by more than 60 percent. “As customer demands and …

It comes down to service. Comcast is and always has been the worst. I believe their TV name change to "Xfinity" was to draw in people who refused to do business with Comcast. Also their pricing seems to be exclusively based on introductory rates that climb almost exponentially once you're past the initial offer. I've worked with both companies and at&t can be worked with easily.   more ›

Company Offers High-Speed Internet for Low-Income Families

The Internet Essentials program is open to households with children who receive free lunches through the National School Lunch initiative.

Things are tough all over, and, several years into the recession, families are still cutting back. But some things that were once thought of as luxuries are now considered essential in today’s high-tech world — including Internet access. On Monday night, Comcast Government Affairs Manager Tony Signorella was at the Valley View Board of Education meeting to introduce an initiative that offers a discounted rate for families who otherwise might not be able to afford at-home Internet access. "As far as we know, this is the biggest step forward to close the digital divide," Signorella said Monday, just before the board voted to allow Internet Essentials information to be placed where families can access it during school registration events. The…

This is interesting in the face of schools requiring homework to be done ONLINE now to save on book costs. My 2nd grader is doing Math, Reading and Science homework and quizzes online now. First thing out of my mouth was "What if you don't have internet access?" I happen to know of several people who have had to give up their internet to cut back. I realize there is the library, but they have …   more ›

Close but No Cigar for PNHS in Bid to Win Fan Battle

Warren Township High School's "Blue Crew" has won this year's Comcast Battle of the Fans Madness tournament.

There’s no shame in being second best. While the Crimson Crazies of Plainfield North High School put up a good fight, it was the Warren Township High School's Blue Devils who emerged victorious when the votes in the Comcast Battle of the Fans Madness tournament were added up Sunday night. The "Blue Crew" outlasted 15 others schools through four rounds of voting over the last month. As a result, it is they who have secured the Battle of the Fans banner, which will be hung in the Gurnee high school's gymnasium. Initially, there were two Plainfield schools in the running, but Plainfield East fell short two weeks ago while Plainfield North made it all the way to the final championship round. Charging strong in the early going and fizzling in …

What Are You Waiting For? Time to Show Your Plainfield

Plainfield North has made it into the Final Four of Comcast's School Spirit Contest.

Sure, we’re still recovering from our resounding defeat at the hands of Mokena in Eric and Kathy’s 101.9 - The Mix's Battle of the Burbs. And, true, Plainfield East got left behind on the brackets in the Comcast 100 Battle of the Fans Madness Championship. But we can stiill move on to steal victory from the arms of defeat. Our last chance at March Madness mastery comes thanks to the super school spirit of Plainfield North High School and the "Crimson Crazies," who routed competitors to make the Final Four of Comcast’s first-ever Battle of the Fans Madness tournament. Plainfield North  scored 62 percent of last week's vote, leaving St. Patrick High School in …
