Heat Advisory Issued for Plainfield

Temperatures could top the 100-degree mark — and it will feel even hotter.

The heat index, a measure of how hot it actually feels when humidity is taken into account, could reach 110 degrees Thursday in Plainfield, according to the National Weather Service. A heat advisory is in effect from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday, with an expected high of 101 degrees and peak heat index readings of 105 to 110. The National Weather Service issued this warning on Tuesday with regard to Thursday’s heat: "To minimize the threat of excessive heat exposure, take frequent breaks during any strenuous outdoor activity, preferably in an air-conditioned location. If possible, reschedule these activities during the cooler early morning or evening hours. Stay hydrated with non-alcoholic fluids, preferably water, and wear light-fitting loose …

Beat the Heat: Will County Cooling Centers Open

Residents are asked to keep an eye on elderly family members and neighbors during extreme heat.

With temperatures expecting to rise over the next several days, the Will County Sheriff's Department is reminding residents that there are numerous cooling centers available to provide relief from the dangerous heat.   In Plainfield, temperatures are expected to get as high as 97 degrees by Thursday. Today, the Will County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) released a current cooling enter list.
