Burglaries, Assaults, DUIs and Other Crimes Up in 2009, Statistics Show
The numbers do not show dramatic increases, and the crime remains low for a town of Plainfield's size, police chief says.
Crime in almost every category went up in 2009, but the total numbers remain low for a town with almost 40,000 people, Plainfield Police Chief William Doster said Thursday. Statistics show increases in: Burglary – 54 in 2008, 89 in 2009; Aggravated assault – seven in 2008, 16 in 2009; Arson – two in 2008, five in 2009; Battery/domestic battery – 164 in 2008, 188 in 2009; DUI – 141 in 2008, 187 in 2009; Burglary to motor vehicle – 184 in 2008, 251 in 2009; Illegal possession/consumption of alcohol/drugs – 227 in 2008, 251 in 2009; Sexual assault – eight in 2008; 10 in 2009.
