Man Gets 10-Year Sentence in Plainfield DUI Crash
David Dietrich was sentenced Friday in the October 2011 death of motorcyclist George Weikum.
A Shorewood man was sentenced Friday to 10 years in prison for the 2011 drunken driving crash that killed motorcyclist George Weikum on Route 59 in Plainfield. Dietrich, 34, was on his way home from a fundraiser for a youth baseball league when he struck Weikum, 58, a Naperville resident and owner of a Plainfield business. According to police, Dietrich lost control of his pickup truck, which crossed the center line, rolled over and hit Weikum, who was riding his Harley-Davidson north on Route 59 between 135th Street and 143rd Street. A Shorewood man pleaded guilty this week in a Plainfield DUI crash that killed a motorcyclist. David C. If this guy had somehow killed someone before he got in his vehicle, what would his sentence be? You can tell he is a very responsible citizen, because his vehicle was not insured either. When is the legal system going to bring the consequences up to the gravity of the crime? Family Files Suit in Fatal Plainfield Crash
The family of George Weikum, 58, filed a wrongful death lawsuit against David Dietrich of Shorewood. Dietrich was charged with DUI following the 2011 crash.
The wife and daughter of a Naperville motorcyclist who died in an October 2011 crash are seeking more than $50,000 in a wrongful death lawsuit filed against the Shorewood man accused of causing his death while driving drunk, according to The Herald News. George Weikum, 58, died in a rollover accident on Route 59 between 135th and 143rd streets. Police said David C. Dietrich, 33, of Shorewood, lost control, hit the center median and crossed over into oncoming traffic, striking Weikum's Harley-Davidson. Driver in Crash that Killed Motorcyclist was Intoxicated, Plainfield Police Say

The Shorewood man who killed a motorcyclist in a roll-over accident on Route 59 Saturday was drunk and uninsured at the time of the collision, Plainfield police said Sunday. David C. Dietrich, 32, of 902 Bittersweet, has been charged with aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol, resulting in the death of another; driving under the influence; improper lane usage; driving too fast for conditions; and operating an uninsured motor vehichle.
