Ousted Plainfield Candidates Run as Write-Ins

Michael Lambert challenges Mayor Mike Collins, while Tom Breier makes a try for the park board and David Schmidt hopes to keep his post as a library trustee.

After election challenges knocked several candidates off the ballot this winter, three candidates are trying their luck as write-ins. Michael Lambert said he filed in late January to run as a write-in candidate for mayor after resident Jeff Schmitt challenged his nominating petitions and he was removed from the April 9 ballot. “I’m continuing because I still believe in why I chose to run in the first place,” Lambert said. He’s challenging incumbent Mike Collins, who also faced an election challenge but won his bid to stay on the ballot. Good point. I have seen how much of a bully Michael Lambert is. I heard he called the State Fire Marshall and tried to shutdown the wonderful Plainfield Festival last year. Shame on him and shame on Andreasen Travel for supporting him. I will no longer patronize their business.   more ›

Park Board Member Challenging Library Candidates

Peter Hurtado — whose daughter is seeking a spot on the library board — filed objections Thursday against three candidates.

A Plainfield Park District commissioner is questioning the candidacy of three people who are seeking spots on the Plainfield Public Library District Board of Trustees. Peter Hurtado, who was elected to the park board in 2011 and ran unsuccessfully against State Sen. Linda Holmes last November, filed objections to the nominating petitions of David Schmidt, Alice R. Adeszko and Lauren Ledvina. Hurtado’s 19-year-old daughter, Samantha, is among the nine candidates for the four open seats on the board in the April election. Library Board Appoints New Trustees

Carl Gilmore, David Schmidt fill vacancies left after resignations of Mary Stevens and Mary Frances Wilkens.

Editor's note: The following is a press release issued by the Plainfield Public Library District. Carl F. Gilmore and David Schmidt were appointed by the Plainfield Public Library District Board of Trustees on Wednesday, September 19 to fill the vacant positions left by the resignations of Mary Stevens and Mary Frances Wilkens, for unrelated personal reasons, over the summer. The newly appointed trustees will serve in the unexpired terms through April 2013, when the seats will be up for election. The two candidates were interviewed at the regular meeting of the Board and appointed by unanimous votes. Gilmore is an instructor and administrator at Joliet Junior College.
