Could this be the best “decked” house in the country? Possibly. Congratulations to Ed and Colleen Vrba of Plainfield, who are among the 25 finalists in our Deck the House contest. We had tons of national entries this year and in our quest to find the most over-the-top holiday decorations in the country, we’ve seen everything from a life-size Santas to holiday lights so bright they could blind the neighbors. We loved seeing everyone’s holiday spirit, but Deck the House isn’t over yet. We’re still looking for the one home so spectacularly decorated that it could be the national grand prize winner of our contest—and it could be the Vrba home right here in Plainfield. For the Vrba family, decking the house is a family Christmas tradition. "…

Share photos and videos of your holiday display on Patch, or just tell us where we can see great lights in Plainfield.
By now, you should know about Patch’s “Deck the House” contest, which launched this month and gives dedicated decorators the chance to win $100,000 for their local school district by entering photos or videos of their holiday light displays. (You can check out Plainfield entries and cast your vote by clicking here.) There’s also the Plainfield Park District’s outdoor holiday decorating contest — the deadline to enter that one is Dec. 12, and winners will be announced Dec. 19. But we can’t all be Clark Griswold. Maybe your holiday display is a little more low key — or maybe you’re just not the contest-entering type. That’s no reason to hide your light. We think your holiday display deserves to be shared. So we’re asking Plainfield holiday …

Your vote could help make a world of difference for students in Bolingbrook's Valley View School District.
It was Benjamin Franklin who once said, "If we do not hang together, we shall surely hang separately." I know you're not from Bolingbrook, but Bolingbrook sure needs your help. The Frohns, longtime residents of Bolingbrook, are among 24 national finalists for Patch's Deck the House contest. What's at stake? A lot, actually. If the Frohns receive the most votes by Sunday, Jan. 8, the Valley View School District will get $100,000 for local students. Now we know your kids don't attend any of Valley View's schools. But the Frohns are the only Illinois candidate. And during these cash-strapped times we live in, anyone can realize the enormous effect $100,000 can have on a child's education. Please take a moment to vote for the Frohns and help…

I'm with you! There is no way I would vote through facebook. Facebook is a data collection sponge. There is already too much information about us out there for all to see. I found a website that has my name, almost entire address, a picture of my house, my religion, political party, age (although they have me as being in my 70’s), a MAP OF WHERE I LIVE, a list of my relatives (and although not …   more ›
