Diageo Plans Another Expansion, 50 New Jobs for its Plainfield Headquarters

The village board's approval of the company's site plan means construction can begin this year.

Diageo's ready to expand again, now that plans for a $22 million addition to the distillery's North American headquarters have been OK'd by Plainfield Village Board. The 63,000-square-foot extension will be built at the northwest corner of Van Dyke Road and 143rd Street. It's the second facility expansion since 2008, and one of many since the company purchased the operation in 1997. Diageo is one of the largest distillers in the world, and in Plainfield the company manufactures traditional and flavored Smirnoff vodka products, Gordon's and Booths gins, and flavored beers, such as Smirnoff Ice and Smirnoff Ice Triple Black. Diageo Plans $22M Expansion, with Help from District 202 Tax Abatement

The school board has signed off on a five-year, 50 percent tax break that will allow the company to build an 86,000-square-foot addition and add 50 new jobs.

The Plainfield Community Consolidated School District 202 has agreed to a property tax abatement to allow a business to expand its current facility and add about 50 new jobs. Diageo Americas Supply Inc. requested a property tax abatement as part of its plans to consolidate its manufacturing capacity from several North American sites into its Plainfield location, 2440 W. 143rd St., according to the Will County Center for Economic Development, which asked the school district to approve the abatement. Diageo, a leading spirits, beer and wine company, is spending about $22 million to build an 86,000-square-foot addition, CED officials said. Diageo plans to expand its bottling hall by 45,000 square feet, renovate the existing plant office space…

Letting Diageo off the hook for property taxes is more corporate welfare. This needs to go. Corporate welfare is far higher in this country than social welfare. We should develop a philosophy of acting in the best interests of the Village, not what is best for the pocketbooks of a few individuals or a corporation. The best way to keep businesses in Plainfield is to lower taxes for everyone. …   more ›

Plainfield's the 'Strawberry' on the Cake for Container Manufacturer

Logoplaste has relocated its North American headquarters to the village, creating 40 jobs making containers for Diageo alcoholic beverages.

Corporate executives from across the globe huddled with Plainfield village officials Wednesday to marvel over the latest and greatest in plastic technology.  They were looking at $16 million of container-making machinery. "That's 1 percent of the village valuation right here in this room," Village Administrator Brian Murphy said.  Logoplaste, an international container-manufacturing company, chose Plainfield as its North American headquarters and on Wednesday, company brass joined with officials from spirits bottler Diageo to celebrate the opening of its manufacturing operation at 14420 Van Dyke Road. The new plant employs about 40 people, and another 50 jobs will be added when the company moves its research and development center to …
