Plainfield Schools Aim to Prevent Teen Drinking, Driving with 'Road to Reality'

Students will see the consequences of drunk driving during an April 4 event. The public is invited, but the presentation is not recommended for kids under age 10.

Article submitted by Plainfield School District 202: You drink and drive. You lose. The message is so simple. Yet some teens learn it only through tragedy when a friend or loved one dies in a car accident caused by drunk driving. Plainfield North High School will try to help sixth- through 12th-grade students avoid that heartbreak by hosting “Road to Reality” from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, April 4, at the school, 12005 S. 248th Street, Plainfield. This free event is open to all District 202 middle and high school students. Refreshments will be available. Plainfield St. Patrick's Day Crackdown Nets Four DUI Arrests

Plainfield police stepped up drunken driving, seat belt enforcement from March 14 to 17.

Article submitted by the Plainfield Police Department: The Plainfield Police Department made four drunk-driving arrests during the recent St. Patrick’s Day crackdown, three of which were made after midnight. In addition, 69 occupant restraint citations were written, 43 of which occurred during nighttime enforcement hours. Plainfield police joined forces with other state and local law enforcement and highway safety partners in the Illinois St. Patrick’s Day campaign. The campaign featured high-visibility enforcement combined with a variety of outreach activities which included a strategic media campaign as well as additional enforcement activity. Plainfield Police on the Lookout for St. Paddy's Day Drunken Drivers

Crackdown starts March 14.

Plainfield police are warning motorists to celebrate safely this St. Patrick's Day and are conducting a holiday crackdown on drunken drivers and motorists who fail to buckle up. As part of the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over and Click It or Ticket campaigns, police remind those who plan to drink alcohol to designate a sober driver before the party begins. "Too often, St. Patrick’s Day can be a deadly and dangerous time on roadways because of drunk driving," police said in a press release. "That is why from March 14th through March 17th, Plainfield officers will be working overtime to catch and arrest anyone who is driving drunk, and cite anyone who fails to buckle up." Carlton Fisk Catches New Court Date

The Cooperstown catcher's drunken driving case was postponed again.

It's been a month and a week since baseball immortal Carlton Fisk was allegedly found passed out behind the wheel of his pickup in a New Lenox cornfield, but the former Red and White Sox star has yet to make it into a Joliet courtroom. Fisk was scheduled for a hearing Thursday morning but his drunken driving case postponed until Dec. 17. Fisk's lawyer, Stephen White, is fighting to get his superstar client's driver's license back and to have evidence ejected from the case. Fisk, 64, lost his license when he allegedly refused to take a breathalyzer test during his arrest Oct. 22 on charges of driving under the influence, improper lane usage and illegal transportation of alcohol. Plainfield  Oct. 16: Danielle Delara, 20, of the 11000 block of Wolf Drive, Plainfield, was arrested by Plainfield police at 7:05 a.m. at 127th Street and Naperville Road and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, police said. Erin’s AIMM for Change To Hold 6th Annual Walk and Run

Family will hold annual event on Sunday to raise money for scholarships to honor memory of daughter killed by a drunk driver. The Erin E. Olmsted Memorial Scholarship benefits students at Plainfield East, Sandburg high schools.

The Olmsted family of Orland Park has managed to turn tragedy into triumph through Erin’s AIMM for Change 5K Run and Walk, which is set for 8:30 a.m. on Sunday. The annual event, now in its sixth year at the Metra station in Centennial Park in Orland Park, helps raise money for the Erin E. Olmsted Memorial Scholarship, which was created to honor the 17-year-old high school student killed on March 2, 1997, by a drunk driver. Her family has awarded $45,000 in scholarships in her name to 37 recipients from Sandburg High School over the past 15 years. Man Guilty in Plainfield DUI; 1st DUI in 2003 Caused Wife's Death

Gerard Jayne received 4 years' probation for his first drunken driving offense but may not get same break for DUI arrest by Plainfield police, Sun-Times Media says.

A man who killed his wife in a drunken driving accident but avoided prison was arrested in Plainfield more than seven years later for being intoxicated behind the wheel, and now may when sentenced by the same judge in May. According to a story published by Sun-Times Media, 50-year-old Gerard Jayne of Joliet received a four-year probation term for the reckless homicide of his wife, Sherri, in a 2003 crash on Theodore Street near Drauden Road. His second DUI arrest was on May 26, 2011, at 24020 Fraser Road, according to Plainfield police records. He's pleaded guilty to the second offense and will be sentenced by Will County Judge Richard Schoenstedt on May 24, the Sun-Times story said. To read the entire article, click here.

Man Driving 90 mph the Wrong Way Busted, Cops Say

Minooka man was allegedly intoxicated at the time of his arrest, Kendall County sheriff's officers say.

A Minooka man who was going 90 mph the wrong way on a road near Route 126 and Ridge Road in unincorporated Plainfield was arrested by Kendall County sheriff's deputies and charged with driving under the influence, the Sun-Times Media Wire reported. For the full account, click here.
