Plainfield Township Officials Win Awards

Assessor Erin Kljaich and tax collector Matthew Starr recognized at township officials conference.

Plainfield Township scored top awards at this year's Township Officials of Illinois (TOI) Annual Education Conference in Springfield.   Assessor Erin Kljaich received the organization's 2012 Mighty Message Award for her Real Estate Tax News brochure. The award recognizes Kljaich’s efforts to educate the residents on the assessment and tax cycles. First elected in 2009, Kljaich has made education a priority.   Earlier this year she was a presenter at the Plainfield Public Library during Money Week. In 2011, Kljaich achieved the certified Illinois assessing officer master designation from the Illinois Property Assessment Institute. Tax Collector Matthew C. Property Values Decline in Plainfield, Will County

But lower assessments do not necessarily translate into lower tax bills.

For the third consecutive year, Will County homeowners will see a reduction in the assessed value of their houses. Will County Supervisor of Assessments Rhonda Novak announced Wednesday that assessments are down an average of 6.44 countywide due to the continued effects of the housing slump. In Plainfield Township, Assessor Erin Kljaich said assessments are down an average of 6 percent. “It’s really important to note that it’s not 6 percent across the board,” Kljaich added, saying some pockets of Plainfield Township will see even greater reductions. Let us not forget the Village of Plainfield decided to go into the real estate business with the former Baci's. Let's hope the Village gets back its investment + a profit. Maybe next time the Village Board/President has some competition in the upcoming Consolidated Election.   more ›
