Baby Chihuahua Stolen from Mall Pet Store; Suspect Caught on Video

Joliet police were notified of the theft of the 1.5-pound female dog from the Furry Babies store, employee says.

A 1.5-pound female Chihuahua was stolen from the Furry Babies store in the Louis Joliet Mall. Store surveillance video captured an image of the man taking the dog at about 8 p.m. Friday night. Here is what an employee posted on the Joliet Patch Facebook page: I work for furry babies in the Louis joliet mall. We have a man on camera stealing one of our babies. She is a 2 month old blue chihuahua. He weighs about 1.5 lbs. this was around 8 pm last night. It has been reported to joliet police. Humane Society: Fox Valley Mall's Furry Babies Store Linked to Puppy Mills

A dozen Chicago-area pet stores were listed in an undercover investigation released Tuseday by the Puppy Mill Campaign for the Humane Society of the United States.

A dozen Chicago-area pet stores—including locations in Lisle, Downers Grove and Aurora—have been listed in a puppy mill investigation conducted by the Humane Society of the United States. The Humane Society said Tuesday that undercover investigators visited 12 stores over a three-day period in October, and found many are linked to inhumane commercial breeders known as puppy mills. During the visits, employees at the stores denied selling animals from puppy mills, but documents showed otherwise, according to the Humane Society. Investigators also discovered that eight of the 12 stores were in violation of Illinois' pet shop disclosure law, which requires stores to post visible information about the animals and their breeders, the Humane …

There are also many rescue organizations that have wonderful dogs looking for good homes. I volunteer for a rescue and recently adopted a 3 year old who came from a puppy mill breeder in MO who was threatening to kill him because he was producing puppies with pink noses (apparently the pink nosed puppies don't bring in as much $$ to the breeders).
