Police said driver lost control, struck median wall south of Route 126.
A man involved in an early-morning crash on Interstate 55 south of Route 126 in Plainfield died of his injuries Wednesday, state police said. Trooper DeAnn Falat said the man was driving a 2006 Mazda on southbound I-55 near milepost 260 when he lost control for unknown reasons and struck a center median wall. The Mazda became disabled in the left lane with no lights activated, police said. When a Good Samaritan driving a 2002 Pontiac pulled over in front of the Mazda to check on the crash victim, a semi-trailer that was also traveling in the left lane struck both vehicles, police said. The driver of the Mazda was airlifted to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospitalin Downers Grove, where he died of his injuries, police said. State police did not …

A man was transported to an area hospital by helicopter following a three-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck on southbound Interstate 55 early Wednesday. Illinois State Police Sgt. R. Caves said the accident occurred around 1:30 a.m. on southbound I-55 south of Route 126 after one vehicle crashed into a wall. When another motorist stopped to check on the disabled vehicle, that vehicle was hit by the semi, Caves said. The semi also struck the disabled vehicle, which had come to rest in the left lane with no lights on, according to police. Study will investigate potential routes for diverting traffic away from downtown if the I-55 interchange is built.
Village officials want to make sure that a proposed Interstate 55 interchange at Lockport Street doesn’t bring even more traffic to an already-congested downtown Plainfield. On Monday, trustees signed off on a plan to pay Joliet-based engineering firm Strand Associates more than $93,000 to explore the possibility of a Lockport Street bypass. An injured dog was found on northbound I-55 this afternoon, according to the Herald-News.
An injured dog caused traffic delays in the northbound lanes of I-55 Wednesday afternoon, according to the Herald-News. The dog was found around 12:15 p.m. near mile marker 255 south of Route 30, according to Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Martez Malone. The animal was subsequently turned over to Joliet Township Animal Control, which was already looking for the dog.

The crash involving three cars and a semi brought northbound traffic to a standstill Sunday morning near Plainfield.
Two people were injured in a crash involving three vehicles and a semi-truck Sunday morning on northbound I-55 near Route 126. Plainfield Deputy Fire Chief Jon Stratton said two people were taken to Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while 10 other people refused treatment at the scene. Stratton said the call came in around 10:50 a.m. The wet weather Sunday morning may have contributed to the crash. “One car hydroplaned and hit the semi and kind of started a chain reaction,” Stratton said. Illinois State Police are investigating the accident. A state police spokeswoman said no additional information was immediately available early Sunday afternoon.

State police reported major delays in both directions Friday night.
Traffic was backed up on northbound I-55 near Bolingbrook after a semi-truck caught fire during rush hour Friday. A spokesman with the Illinois State Police said state troopers were en route to the scene just before 5 p.m., adding the center and right lanes were shut down heading north. The semi caught fire on northbound I-55 near mile marker 263. No additional information was immediately available Friday.

Illinois State Police said a pickup truck rolled over, coming to rest in the center lane on northbound I-55 near Renwick Road.
Hours after two cars were involved in a rollover crash near Route 126, the driver of a pickup truck was injured in a similar accident on northbound Interstate 55 near Renwick Road. Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Martez Malone said it's still unclear what caused the single-car crash around 1:38 p.m. "It was a pickup truck that rolled over and came to rest in the center lane," Malone said. A trailer attached to the truck remained upright, police said. The driver was transported to Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital with minor injuries, Malone said.
