6 Car Crash Shuts Down Northbound Interstate 55

Illinois State Police said the cars had to be towed from the scene with flatbed trailers.

No one was injured in a six-car pileup on Interstate 55 Sunday afternoon. The chain-reaction accident, though, shut down all lanes of northbound I55, just south of the Weber Road interchange. Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Jeff Padilla said the call came in at 2:11 p.m. The accident began when a car stalled in the center lane and two vehicles stopped successfully. However, a fourth vehicle did not stop, hitting the three in front. Then two additional cars were also unable to stop. The closure of the Interstate was in part because at least three of the cars needed to be towed from the scene on flatbed trailers. "Nobody is paying attention out there," Padilla said. At 3:30 p.m., the lanes were still shut down. Patch will update this story…

Like the incident never occurred! Good job to the authorities & IDOT. This all could have been much worse. But reversing or driving the wrong way down an entry ramp with emergency vehicles coming, etc is absolutely stupid. Only …   more ›
