Joliet Township High School Approves Bond Purchase

School district chooses to purchase its own bonds.

There were two main reasons the Joliet Township High School district 204 Board of Education members approved investing nearly $950,000 in their working cash fund by purchasing bonds. Called a working cash bond purchase, the move will keep the tax rate steady and they wanted to have access to the money that is available to them under the tax cap. Board members approved the move on Tuesday night. “If they don’t issue the bonds, they will lose it,” Elizabeth Hennessy, William Blair and Company said at the meeting in November when the issue was first presented to board members. Joliet Township High School to Expand Laptop Program

Next year, all freshmen and sophomores will have laptops as will select upperclassmen.

Joliet Township High School District 204 Officials have a goal in mind. By the school year 2014-2015, all the students at the two campuses will have laptops. Currently, the members of the freshmen class at both Joliet West High School and Joliet Central High School operate on laptops. In fact, when implementing the next step of the laptop program - also known as the 1:1 initiative - the machines that are currently used by freshmen students will continue to be used by freshmen. "We're going to leave the devices that we currently have with the freshmen with the next class of freshmen," Karen Harkin, Director of Information Technology Services at Joliet Township High School said. Patch Partners with JTHS to Promote Values

Community members are invited to tell their stories as a way of encouraging students to embrace seven character attributes.

As any student will tell you, high school can be hard, and made harder still when bullying becomes an issue. In these days of cell phones, Facebook pages and laptop computers, bullying can transcend name-calling and after-school fights that most parents remember.  Joliet Township High School District 204 has made a concerted effort to counter student-on-student attacks by teaching seven character attributes: respect, integrity, confidence, responsibility, compassion, perseverance and tolerance.
