Funeral Services Scheduled for Plainfield Township Teen

Jose "Pepe" Chavez Sanchez died Dec. 28 from a gunshot wound sustained after he reportedly attacked a Will County deputy with a knife.

Funeral services are scheduled for a 17-year-old Plainfield Township teen who was shot after allegedly attacking a Will County Sheriff's deputy. According to the Delgado Funeral Chapel, visitation for Jose "Pepe" Chavez Sanchez, 17, is scheduled for 5 to 9 p.m. Jan. 2 and 10 to 10:45 a.m. Jan. 3 at the funeral home, 400 Landau Ave., Joliet. A funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 404 Hickory St., Joliet. No obituary for the teen was posted. According to the Will County Coroner's office, Chavez Sanchez died Dec. 28 — more than a week after he was shot by a deputy who was responding to a report of a domestic dispute at the teen's home in the 2300 block of Gaylord Road. Teen Shot by Sheriff’s Deputy Dies

Jose Chavez, 17, died Friday afternoon at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center. He was shot Dec. 20 after police said he slashed the face of a Will County deputy.

A teenager shot last week by a Will County Sheriff’s deputy died of his injuries on Friday, according to the Will County Coroner’s office. Jose Chavez Sanchez, 17, was pronounced dead at 3:29 p.m. Friday at Provena St. Joseph hospital in Joliet, according to the coroner. Sign up for the Plainfield Patch newsletter.
