Tax Break Could Bring Electronics Recycling Headquarters to Plainfield
Village officials signed off on a 50 percent tax abatement on a project that would unite a local business with one of the world's largest recycling companies.
Officials are hoping to keep one of the world’s largest recycling companies in Plainfield by offering a tax abatement on a planned $5.7 million expansion project. Planner Michael Garrigan said a local business, Vintage Tech Recylers — which got its start in Plainfield — is partnering with Finnish recycling company Kuusakoski to convert the former Fox Valley Press building into a state-of-the-art electronics recycling plant. The international company has plans to purchase the building, which has been vacant for more than three years, and spend $5,750,800 to convert the former newspaper printing facility into its new North American headquarters, Garrigan said. Are they really going to be able to receive grants to recycle electronics? GoodWill is already up and running doing the same service with grant money. What does this facility do that the nationwide chain of stores can't? Curious.....   more ›
