Support a Plainfield Candidate! Write a Letter to the Editor

As the April election approaches, our readers are welcome to submit letters to the editor in support of the candidates of their choice.

The April 9 election is fast approaching. Show your support for a Plainfield candidate by writing a letter to the editor.  The requirements? You must use your full name and the letter must be 300 words or less. Letter: Wheatland Sponsors 2012 Thanksgiving Food Drive

Township will collect items to help feed families in need this Thanksgiving.

In an effort to support families in Wheatland Township, that are experiencing difficulty, we are hosting a Thanksgiving food drive. The food drive will be initiated November 5th and will run through November 16, 2012. We are hoping to provide a full meal to all our participants so they can start out the holiday season with a wonderful holiday meal. Some of the items we will be collecting are: boxed stuffing, canned yams, boxed mashed potatoes, cans of cranberry sauce, corn or green beans, Heat-n-Serve rolls, turkey gravy/mix or canned olives. Gift cards will also be accepted so that we can purchase pumpkin pies and any additional food stuffs needed for the completion of the meals. Other drop-off points for the food drive in Wheatland …

Letter: Help Support Patriotic Fireworks Display

Community members can make donations to the Plainfield Park District's Fireworks Fund.

Dear Fellow Residents –  The Plainfield Park District will host its fifth annual Patriotic Picnic and Fireworks Display on Tuesday, July 3. This FREE event will provide fun activities for the entire family beginning at 5 p.m. and will culminate with a fireworks display at dusk. The event will take place at Plainfield Central High School.  The park district is currently seeking donations to help fund this year’s fireworks. A donation web site has been established at www.melrosepyro.com/donate/plainfieldparkdistrict and all donations go directly to the park district’s Fireworks Fund. I see nothing mentioned about any precautions being taken in Plainfield to prevent fires from this display. The area is in the middle of one of the worst droughts in 25 years, and conditions are ripe for a single spark to set off fires all around town. Letter: Residents Oppose Gas Station, Favor Preservation

Group believes pioneer home should become a visitors center, not a convenience store.

The owners of the lots located where Joliet Road (US 30) and Division Street (IL 59) meet will come before the Plainfield Planning Commission on Tuesday, June 5 to ask for approval to tear down the historic 1845 house and build a gas station with a convenience store on 3 parcels totaling less than an acre. The previous gas station and convenience store that once sat there was removed 2010 during IDOT's road widening project.  The Plainfield Historic Preservation Commission has tried unsuccessfully to save the 1845 pioneer home, known as the Corbin-Bingham-Worst. The house was identified in the Village’s 2005 Historic Urban survey as a significant historic structure and the Commission envisioned restoring the structure creating a vistitors …
