The Plainfield brewpub, which will fill the space formerly occupied by Limestone, is tentatively scheduled to open the day before Thanksgiving.
It’s taken a bit longer than anticipated, but plans are coming together for a new brewpub on Route 59. Co-owner Steve Cin said a new opening date of Nov. 21 is planned for Nevin’s Brewing Company, which will fill the space formerly housed by Limestone Brewing, 12337 S. Route 59. Originally, the location was tentatively scheduled to open around Labor Day, Cin told Patch in June. “We really increased the size of the brewery,” Cin said, adding it’s taken some time for some of the new brewing equipment to arrive. “We purchased a 15 [barrel] Belgium system — it is beautiful.” Sign up for Plainfield Patch’s daily newsletter and add us on Facebook. Cin said Nevin’s is also in the process of finalizing its federal licensing to operate the brewery…

Owners also took on existing tenant’s leases in Route 59 strip mall, including a new restaurant set to open in the former Nick’s Cozy Corner location.
Updated Dec. 10: Nevin's co-owner Steve Cin has announced a new opening date of Dec. 21. Original story: A new Plainfield restaurant could become a flagship of sorts for the owners of Tommy Nevin’s Pub. Co-owner Steve Cin said Nevin’s Brewing Company is slated to open by Labor Day in the spot vacated by Limestone Brewing Company. The sale of the building, purchased in a bankruptcy auction, was finalized Wednesday. “It’ll be an American-themed brewery,” Cin said. “We’re hoping at some point to create our own great beers and self-distribute” to other restaurants owned by the company. The Nevin’s chain includes Irish pubs and American steakhouses. Holdings include The Kerry Piper Willowbrook, Muldoon’s in Wheaton and Tommy Nevin’s pubs in …

Steve Cin and his partners purchased the entire strip mall; Public Brewing Company could be open by late summer/early fall.
The owners of Tommy Nevin's Pub have purchased the Plainfield strip mall in which Limestone Brewing Company was located, and have plans to open their own brew pub there in late summer/early fall. Initially, the group had wanted to lease the Limestone site for the company's new Public Brewing Company, co-owner Steve Cin said. However, once they saw Limestone's interior, which was damaged when Limestone removed its equipment, they realized it might be smarter just to purchase the entire site. So they did, at a bankruptcy auction held Wednesday, Cin said. The North Plainfield Crossing mall at 12337 S. Route 59 had been owned by Ardmin Properties, which filed for bankruptcy last year. The 55,000-square-foot strip center was in foreclosure, …

Steven Cin, owner of Public Brewing Co., says the amount of destruction will probably make it financially impossible for him to take over the space.

A company that had hoped to fill the space vacated by Limestone Brewing Company is now reconsidering given what they say is a huge amount of damage left by the previous owners. According to a story in the Joliet Herald News, Steven Cin and his group, Public Brewing Co. -- who owns Tommy Nevin’s Pub in Naperville, Frankfort and Evanston, Pete Miller’s Seafood and Prime Steak in Evanston and Wheeling and Irish pubs in Willowbrook and Wheaton -- may opt out of the deal based on the damaged interior. But former Limestone owner Jan Isley, who closed the 12337 S. Route 59 business last month, told the newspaper the building was not as bad as described. However, she did acknowledge that some work had to be done, incuding the removal of a wall, in…

The owners have been negotiating over the terms of a new lease, and were unable to come to a resolution, according the business's Web site.
It's rumor no longer -- Saturday was the last day for Limestone Brewing Company in Plainfield. In June, it will open in a new location in the Fox Valley area of Aurora, according to the business' Web site. "It has been a tremendous couple of years," General Manager Jason Rosendahl said. "Unfortunately, we couldn't come to an agreement with our landlord, who is facing his own set of problems with foreclosure of the property." Although the site did not disclose where the new spot will be, it described the location is in a high-traffic area with an "enormous patio area," which is something its current property lacked. Limestone's landlord problems became public in January, when the employees were informed the brew pub/restaurant might be …

A lien was filed against the business in August seeking to secure more than $61,000 in back taxes, according to documents in the county recorder of deeds office.
Update/7:30 a.m. Wednesday: Limestone Brewing Company co-owner Janet Isley said today the business' tax problems are being addressed and a payment plan is in place to resolve the debt. She declined to say when payments would be complete, nor would she discuss the situation with the restaurant/brew pub's landlord other than to say that they are open for business. "The doors are open," Isley said. "(Brewmaster) Ken (McMullen) started brewing yesterday. ... We wouldn't be brewing beer if we weren't staying open." Posted at 11:55 p.m. Tuesday: Limestone Brewing Company remains open, but its issues may extend beyond problems with its landlord. Will County Recorder of Deeds office records show the Internal Revenue Service filed a lien against …

While acknowledging they are having trouble with their landlord and that there have been closure rumors, business advisor Michael Vai said they are open for the "foreseeable future."
Rumors of Limestone Brewing Company's imminent closure may be premature, but the business is definitely having problems involving its landlord and lease. "There are some issues going on and the big scuttlebutt is we're closing, but it's not true," business manager Michael Vai said. "We are open and plan on being open for the foreseeable future." Joe Ardovitch, whose Ardmin Properties owns the North Plainfield Crossing strip mall in which Limestone is located, could not be reached for comment. Some Limestone employees were told of the possible closure last week, and brewmaster Ken McMullen sent an online note to the Plainfield Ale & Lager Enthusiasts group urging them to drop by Saturday for a beer because they could be closing. "I just …

Balloonist who died in a trapeze act gone wrong in Plainfield in 1911 is remembered in a Limestone summer ale that bears his name.
It was 100 years ago this summer that professor Harry Darnell met his maker when he plunged from his hot air balloon in what was supposed to be a death-defying trapeze act over Plainfield’s Electric Park. Tuesday nightyou can throw back a berry-flavored microbrew to toast poor Darnell’s memory. Limestone Brewing Company is throwing a release party to celebrate the debut of a new blueberry ale that bears Darnell's name. The Plainfield brew pub concocts a new berry ale every summer to honor the ill-fated professor. Last year brewmaster Ken Mullen crafted a raspberry wheat ale. This year, it's blueberry. Darnell’s death is a chapter of Plainfield history that made headlines all the way to the New York Times. The daring professor had 200 …

We visited Limestone Brewery to find out what these Average Joes and Janes thought about Joakim Noah yelling an anti-guy slur to a fan, the NBA's reaction to that and other incidents and how pro sports is addressing the issue of sexual orientation.
It hasn’t been a good week for the Chicago Bulls and their fans; it’s been even a worse week for Bulls’ center Joakim Noah. Noah was harassed by a fan during game three of the National Basketball Association’s Eastern Conference Finals last week. According to ESPN, the fan made a derogatory remark about the center’s mother. In response, Noah shouted an anti-gay slur to the fan. A female resident of Naperville, who wished to remain anonymous, said the fan was an idiot to be heckling, but the fan’s action did not justify Noah’s response. “Noah’s a very reactive player. It’s not surprising he did it, but it’s not appropriate,” she said. “Is it excusable, no; is it understandable, somewhat.” The NBA responded to Noah’s action by slapping him …

Organizers need the Plainfield Village Board to approve an ordinance amendment establishing a license and rules for craft beer festivals.
If all goes according to plan, 4,000 craft beer lovers will gather along the banks of the DuPage River on Aug. 27 for the debut of the Midwest Brewers Festival. The event is being organized by the owners of Limestone Brewing Company and Finnegan's Irish Pub as a benefit for the Riverfront Foundation, which is raising money to restore Plainfield’s historic Electric Park. It’s estimated the fest will bring in $40,000 for the foundation, Limestone owner Steve Caton told the Plainfield Village Board Monday night. If successful, it could become a recurring festival, he said. “We know it’s going to be a fantastic event,” Finnegan’s owner Dale Lewis said. “By this time next year, we could have double (the attendance) and change.” In order for it …

I have had Tommy Nevins in Naperville a bunch of times and have to say they have a pretty tasty burger! I wanted to try some of their wild game burgers one of these days. I wonder if this will be the same menu as down the street or totally new. If anything keep the burger selection.   more ›
