Fundraiser Set for Minooka Community High School Teacher

A 5K walk/run and a dining special are set for Saturday.

Already, 190 people have registered for a 5K that will be held on Saturday, Nov. 10 to help raise money for Mike Assaf and his family. Assaf was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and is currently undergoing treatment. His wife, Anna is a stay-at-home mom and the couple, who lives in Plainfield, has four children. The youngest is less than a month old. "We want to help raise money to alleviate the stress," Jill Nehring, Assaf's co-worker at the high school said. Assaf has been out of work since September. "Anytime somebody is in need, we try to come up with anything we can to help them," Nehring said of the (Minooka Community High School) community. Local 'Cake Boss' Passionate about 'Creations'

Adrianna Martinez, a Plainfield resident and Minooka Spanish teacher, has a thriving online cake business.

Adrianna Martinez may be a Spanish teacher by profession, but her free time is spent in her Plainfield kitchen pursuing her second passion: baking and decorating edible creations. Martinez is the woman behind Adrianna Creations. While she's been making cakes for family and friends since the age of 15, she went professional just his year by launching an online business. There's no limit to what she can do, from small cakes for just two up to massive undertakings that can feed as many as 55. The creativity comes with the decorations and fillings, and she can be as detailed or as simple as a customer desires. Of all the cakes the Minooka Community High School teacher has done, the cheesecake torte remains the most popular, Martinez said. A …
