No confirmed negotiations, but owner of Barnes & Noble site is ‘courting’ the high-end grocery store.
A Plainfield Trader Joe’s store has long been on the wish list of many Plainfield residents, and it could happen, according to the company that owns the site occupied by the soon-to-close Barnes & Noble store. Edwards Realty Co. Vice President Ramzi Hassan said reports that his company is in negotiations with the high-end specialty grocer are premature, but noted they have been "courting" Trader Joe’s to bring a franchise to the site, located at 12700 S. Route 59. The brew pub will offer a full menu that's "not your everyday bar food" and a selection of craft brews, according to staff.
The wait is almost over. After unforeseen obstacles — like Hurricane Sandy — delayed its delivery, the custom-made, 15-barrel Belgian brewing system is en route to Nevin’s Brewing Co. in Plainfield, and owners of the Route 59 eatery say they’ve finally pinned down an opening date. “It just [arrived] in the U.S.,” Nevin’s co-owner Steve Cin said, adding he expects the system to arrive by Friday. That means the brew pub is set to open before Christmas. Related: Tommy Nevin’s Finalizes Limestone Building Purchase Cin said the restaurant, which will open up at 12337 S. Route 59 in the former Limestone Brewing location, will offer a sneak peek to guests at private parties on Dec. 21, 22 and 23. Reservations are still available online via the …

Founder Heather Heavens said Spealo.com will launch Dec. 4.
Updated Nov. 27: A Plainfield woman said her newest business venture will let you shop local, save money — and give back to the community. At a time when most people are looking to save a buck or two, Heather Heavens is launching Spealo.com, aimed at offering special deals of 50 to 90 percent off from local merchants. The concept is similar to deal sites like Groupon or Living Social, Heavens said, but with a local focus and one big difference: You don’t have to wait for other shoppers to scoop up a deal before you can snag it for yourself. “The main difference with Spealo versus Living Social or Groupon is there’s no group deal,” Heavens said, explaining there won’t be a minimum number of buyers required to make a deal valid. “Once you …

The Wandering Dragon caters to hobby game lovers.
If you’re looking to spend some quality time with family or friends — or just hoping to snag the perfect gift for that hobby gamer in your life — you’ll find what you’re looking for at The Wandering Dragon Game Shoppe in downtown Plainfield. The family run shop, located on the second floor of the historic Steiner building at 24026 W. Lockport St., opened June 30 and has already found its niche with game lovers, according to owner Kevin Martin. “So far it’s been encouraging,” he said of the traffic at the downtown Plainfield shop. Martin, who runs the shop with wife Laura and son Elias, 14, said he opened the business as a way to bring fun family competition to Plainfield. “We used to game as kids, and we got back into it when our son was 7…

The boutique offers gifts in every price range, says owner Lori Donofrio.
The sign for the brand-new Just Ducky store in downtown Plainfield has yet to be installed, but owner Lori Donofrio wants shoppers to know: the gift shop is open for business. “People don’t really know we’re open,” she said, noting that she expects the new sign to be erected sometime this week. The gift shop joins a Burr Ridge location that is also owned by Donofrio. “We just opened on Friday,” she said. The Plainfield store is located at 24103 W. Lockport St. next to Andreasen Travel. Donofrio and her family have operated Just Ducky stores for more than 25 years, starting with a Darien store that opened in 1986. She also ran locations in Bolingbrook and Naperville. Now, Donofrio said she is looking to make a go of the business in her …

The Italian restaurant will offer dine-in, carryout and delivery from its Route 30 location, according to owner Rick DiPego.
After one family owned eatery closed its doors, another is preparing to take its place. Fat Ricky’s is scheduled to open this week at 13717 Route 30, filling the space vacated by RoSal’s this summer. Owner Rick DiPego said the restaurant, which specializes in pizza and pasta, should be up and running by mid-week. Final inspections of the newly remodeled restaurant are scheduled for Monday. “It’ll be a warm, comfortable, family, neighborhood establishment,” said DiPego, who was the restaurant business in his blood. “We’ve had a family pizzeria in Arlington Heights since 1963,” he said, adding his business motto is “Serving satisfied families since 1963.” DiPego is also a cousin of the owners of RoSal’s, which still has a location on Taylor…

The Plainfield brewpub, which will fill the space formerly occupied by Limestone, is tentatively scheduled to open the day before Thanksgiving.
It’s taken a bit longer than anticipated, but plans are coming together for a new brewpub on Route 59. Co-owner Steve Cin said a new opening date of Nov. 21 is planned for Nevin’s Brewing Company, which will fill the space formerly housed by Limestone Brewing, 12337 S. Route 59. Originally, the location was tentatively scheduled to open around Labor Day, Cin told Patch in June. “We really increased the size of the brewery,” Cin said, adding it’s taken some time for some of the new brewing equipment to arrive. “We purchased a 15 [barrel] Belgium system — it is beautiful.” Sign up for Plainfield Patch’s daily newsletter and add us on Facebook. Cin said Nevin’s is also in the process of finalizing its federal licensing to operate the brewery…
