Deputy Fire Chief Jon Stratton said it's likely the same culprit is responsible for all of the blazes that have occurred on Hazelwood Drive since Christmas Day.
Five vehicle fires in the same area in the last two weeks are being investigated as related and the possible work of an arsonist, Plainfield Deputy Fire Chief Jon Stratton said Sunday night. The first blaze took place Christmas Day, the second New Year's Eve, and the most recent three on early Sunday morning, Stratton said. Each started inside a vehicle in the 16000 block of Hazelwood Drive. Three of which were parked in town home driveways, two inside town home garages and all were unlocked, Stratton said. "It seems like (they're related)," Stratton said. "Nothing really is the same (in terms of what's being used to start the fires). It appears they're using items that are readily available." An e-mail sent to Cozy Corner patrons says the restaurant will serve its last customer today; it will reopen as a new restaurant sometime in January.
It will literally be out with the old and in with the new this New Year's Eve when The Cozy Corner restaurant closes its doors forever today and reopens sometime in January as the Red Rooster restaurant. Patrons were notified by e-mail Friday that the family-run restaurant, located at 12337 S. Route 59 since September 2003, would be serving its last customers from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. The new owners were not identified, nor was there any information on the Red Rooster other than it would offer a "new and inviting concept in dining."
