Article submitted by Plainfield School District 202: Hoping to inspire peace through performance, Plainfield High School-Central Campus students will present their annual dance show at 7 p.m. May 1, 2013 in the school auditorium, 24120 W. Fort Beggs Dr., Plainfield. Tickets are $4, and children under 4 years old are free. The show’s theme is “Infinity” and the dances highlight a variety of styles. Junior prepared by taking a few practice tests at home.
Plainfield Central High School junior Emma Turnbull has scored a perfect 36 score on her ACT test. Emma, who took the test in February, ranks first in her class of 521 juniors, according to a report on the Plainfield District 202 website. “I thought I could do pretty well, and I hoped to, but I didn’t expect a perfect score,” said Turnbull, who has a 5.85 grade-point average on a 5-point scale. “I felt like I had done well on the test, though.” Emma said she prepared for the test by taking a few practice exams at home. Meet and greet will give residents the chance to ask candidates questions in an informal setting.

Skylar Lipman isn’t quite sure what part music will play in her future, but she knows it’s very important to her now. The Plainfield High School – Central Campus senior band member says band is key part of her school day. “It’s more than just a class to me,” said the soft-spoken multi-instrumentalist. “It’s a break in the day.” Her love for music is part of the reason Lipman has been chosen to perform with the 2013 Honor Orchestra of America. Lipman will play bassoon with the Orchestra of America as she does for the PHSCC concert band. She also plays piano in the PHSCC jazz band, mellophone in the marching band, recorder for the Madrigal group and even French horn. Editor's note: The following is a press release issued by Plainfield School District 202. What do you get when you add two math teachers and about 150 more volunteers? A lot of help for needy people in the Joliet area this summer. Tom and Lynn Bond, who both teach math at Plainfield High School – Central Campus are among about 150 people from across the country – including some District 202 students -- who will use PHSCC as a home base from June 17-23 as they repair houses in the Joliet are through the “Reach Workcamps” organization. Reach Workcamps is a week-long service mission to low-income communities. The MainStreet Plainfield carnival/arts-and-crafts event will be held on the Plainfield Central parking lot if the school board gives its OK.
An old Plainfield tradition is coming back with a new name and location, pending approval of the Plainfield School District 202 board next week. Kick Off to Summer Festival 2012 -- once known as Spring Fest and, before that, the Strawberry Festival -- will be held June 2 and 3 if the school board approves the use of Plainfield Central High School's parking lot. The Plainfield Village Board gave its blessing to the event Monday night when it agreed to close Fort Beggs Drive from 6 p.m. June 1 through midnight June 3. Arrest warrants have been issued for four Plainfield men accused of stealing computers from Indian Trail Middle School and sports equipment from Plainfield Central High School, according to an article in the Joliet Herald News. Seventeen computers have been recovered from Boy Scout Park pond, off of Ottawa Street, where the alleged burglars reportedly threw them when they could not get through the locked software, the story said. Football shoulder pads taken from PCHS were recovered at the boat ramp near Caton Farm Road and Interstate 55’s southwest frontage road, the article said. To read the full story, click here.
