ACT Scores Rise for Fourth Straight Year

District 202 posts record ACT scores, beat state and national composite scores for the first time since 2005, officials announced Monday.

Seniors at the four high schools in Plainfield School District 202 posted a record-high district score on the ACT college entrance exam, marking the fourth consecutive year test scores rose, district officials announced Monday. “Congratulations to our high school students, staff and families for this tremendous achievement, school board president Roger Bonuchi said at Monday’s school board meeting. “It’s a big deal.” The 1,726 graduating seniors from Plainfield Central, North, East and South high schools taking the test recorded a 21.3 composite score, up from 20.7 the year before. Plainfield District 202 has put its 2012-13 budget on public display with a projected $8.9 million operating fund deficit. While the school board is preparing to adopt the budget next month with a deficit, it is also working on ways to erase it and will likely file an updated amended budget with the state in early 2013. Finances continue to change weekly, district officials said. Last month, the district anticipated an operating fund deficit of $8.1 million, but then district officials learned that its general state aid dropped by about $1.2 million. Other revenues, including Title I, funding increased. Meanwhile, state officials are trying to decide if teacher pension plan responsibilities will be shifted to local school districts. “We’re…
