National Police Week 2013: Full Schedule of Events

Events include the 25th Annual Candlelight Vigil at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial and the National Peace Officers' Memorial Day Services May 15 in Washington, DC.

Tens of thousands of law enforcement officers and their families will converge on Washington, DC, this week for National Police Week 2013, through May 18. Among the events will be the annual National Peace Officers' Memorial Day Services on Wednesday, May 15, in Washington, DC. National Police Week 2013 full schedule of events. Plainfield Police Blotter: Drug-, Alcohol-Related Crashes Lead to DUI Arrests

May 13 Edgar A. Hernandez, 35, of the 5500 block of Meadowbrook in unincorporated Plainfield was arrested by Will County Sheriff's police and booked into the Will County jail on charges of aggravated DUI, driving during suspension, operating an uninsured vehicle and improper traffic lane use, police said. May 8 Matthew Cessna, 19, of the 12000 block of Walden Drive, Plainfield, was arrested by Plainfield police at 12:35 a.m. at 127th Street and Route 59 and charged with driving under the influence of drugs, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, improper lane use, possession of cannabis (30 grams or less) and possession of drug equipment, police said. Teen Charged in Eastern Avenue Car Burglaries

Donrael Matthews was on probation after a previous Plainfield theft arrest.

A Plainfield teenager with a prior theft conviction was arrested Monday and charged in a string of vehicle burglaries near downtown Plainfield, police said. Donrael J. Matthews, 19, is being held at the Will County jail on a theft charge following a string of vehicle burglaries on Eastern Avenue and in the surrounding neighborhood. Sgt. Mike Fisher said Matthews and two male juveniles were arrested in connection with the burglaries following a search at Matthews’ home in the 15000 block of Park Avenue. “After all of the recent burglaries in the area that he recently moved to, we started conducting an investigation,” Fisher said. Plainfield Police Investigate Eastern Avenue Car Break-Ins

Numerous vehicle burglaries happened sometime between Thursday night and Friday morning, police said.

Sgt. Mike Fisher said there were “several” car burglaries on Eastern Avenue near downtown Plainfield. He estimated there were six or seven incidents, saying residents reported the burglaries early Friday. “In the morning, people woke up and saw their cars were rummaged through,” Fisher said. “Anything of value was taken.” While several of the vehicles had been left unlocked, the burglar or burglars smashed windows to gain entry to others, according to police. ‘High-Velocity’ Crash Sends Two Cars into Ditch at Route 59, 119th Street

No injuries reported in Friday morning crash in Plainfield.

Despite extensive damage to both vehicles in what officials called a “high impact, high velocity crash,” no one was hurt in a Friday morning crash at 119th Street and Route 59. Plainfield Deputy Fire Chief said both drivers refused treatment at the scene following what he described as a “T-bone-type crash” at the intersection around 6:50 a.m. Stratton said both vehicles sustained extensive damage. “Both vehicles left the roadway and ended up in the northeast ditch area,” he said. “They both ended up way down in the ditch.” There were no other occupants in the vehicles, Stratton said. "[They were] very lucky," he said of the drivers. "This was high velocity." Plainfield police are investigating the crash.

Plainfield Police Joins Click It or Ticket Campaign

Roadside safety checked planned for the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

The following is provided by the Plainfield Police Department. The 2013 Click It or Ticket campaign kicks off May 10 in Illinois.  The purpose of the campaign is to help save lives by cracking down on those who do not buckle up through the Memorial Day holiday weekend.  The Plainfield Police Department is joining the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), the Illinois State Police (ISP) and over 500 local law enforcement agencies across the state to save more lives by strongly enforcing seat belt laws.  In addition, the Plainfield Police will be teaming up with the ISP and Will County Sheriff’s Department to conduct a roadside safety check in conjunction with the campaign to detect and arrest impaired drivers in order to make the …

Intersection blocked by turning vehicles from all directions, no seat belts, no turn signals . April 12 Kristina Harrison, 41, of the 2100 block of Mark Circle, Bolingbrook, was arrested by Plainfield police at 3:11 p.m. at a business in the 11000 block of South Route 59 and charged with retail theft, police said. April 15 Nicholas Morgan, 22, of the 7600 block of Gladstone, Naperville, was arrested at 10:34 p.m. at 135th Street and Blakely Drive and charged with possession of less than 10 grams of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia. April 16 Juan Mesarina, 42, of the 3700 block of Towle in Hammond, Indiana, was arrested at 12:12 a.m. at a business in the 12600 block of South Route 59 and charged with retal theft, police said.

Plainfield Man Pulled Knife on Cops: Police

Levi Reoh, 24, was arrested early Sunday in Plainfield.

A Plainfield man who refused to find a place to stay following a domestic squabble wound up spending several nights in the Will County jail after pulling a knife on the cops, police said. Plainfield Police Sgt. Mike Fisher said police responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at an apartment building the 24000 block of Hazelcrest Drive early Sunday morning. Police said while there was no sign of a physical altercation, resident Levi Reoh, 24, was obviously intoxicated. “The officers who were responding met with him in the parking lot and told him to find a place to go” for the night, Fisher said. “He basically told them he wanted to go to jail.” When officers informed Reoh they couldn’t take him to jail without a reason, the …
