Road Closures Announced for St. Mary's 5K Run

Roads are expected to re-open by 10 a.m. Saturday.

The following was provided by the Plainfield Police Department.  On Saturday, May 11, the St Mary Immaculate 5K Run will be occurring in and around St Mary Immaculate Church and School.  Due to the large number of participants expected and the planned event course, commuters and residents may experience increased traffic or temporary road closures.  Included here is information related to the event, expected road closures, and parking restrictions.  Two maps have also been attached for easier reference. The first race will be a kids 2K Run and begin at 8 a.m. near the St Mary Immaculate School; proceed north on Frederick Street to Robert Avenue; proceed east on Robert Avenue to Benson Avenue; proceed south on Benson Avenue to Julie Avenue…

Plainfield police will issue safety tips throughout train safety week, April 29-May 5.

Submitted by the Plainfield Police Department: Plainfield IL – During Train Safety Awareness Week in the Village of Plainfield, which runs from April 29 to May 5, Plainfield police want to promote safety for motorists and pedestrians around railroad tracks. There are several factors that contribute to the occurrence of train versus motor vehicle/pedestrian collisions: Avoid a costly citation; obey all laws associated with railroad grade crossings and property. Plainfield police will issue safety tips throughout train safety week, April 29-May 5.

Submitted by the Plainfield Police Department: During Train Safety Awareness Week, which runs from April 29 to May 5, the Plainfield Police Department encourage you to make safety your priority when in an environment where railroad tracks and trains exist, and also encourage parents to pass this information on to their children. Train Safety Awareness Week Starts Monday in Plainfield

Police will step up awareness efforts, enforcement at Plainfield crossings.

Submitted by the Plainfield Police Department: Along with the CN Railroad, the Plainfield Police Department will conduct its annual Train Safety Week from April 29 to May 5 to promote vehicle and pedestrian safety around railroad tracks and trains. In Illinois during 2012, there were 108 crossing collisions involving motor vehicles, which resulted in 39 injuries and 26 fatalities. In addition, 19 injuries and 19 fatalities occurred when people trespassed on to railroad property. To promote awareness and education, informational press releases will be issued throughout the week and enforcement details will be conducted at various railroad grade crossings within the Village of Plainfield to cite both drivers and pedestrians who disobey the …

If you get hit by a train, you are an idiot. Trains do not move suddenly. They do not normally leave the tracks. They do not sneak up on you. With all the morons getting hit by trains I have no problem with the police getting a few bucks from them before having to scrape them off the tracks.   more ›

Plainfield Police Getting Second K-9 Unit

The new dog, who will take over when current K-9 Aron retires, will be used as a drug detection and patrol service dog.

The ranks of the Plainfield Police Department will increase this summer with the addition of a new four-legged officer. The Plainfield Village Board on Monday signed off on a proposal to add a second K-9 unit to the department, at a cost of $17,100.61. The money, which will come from the department’s asset forfeiture fund, will cover the cost of the new working dog, plus training for the pooch and its handler and lodging during a six-week training session this spring in Pennsylvania, according to Chief John Konopek.
