Rabid Bat Found in Plainfield, Health Department Says

The case marks the second time this year a bat found in Plainfield has tested positive for the disease.

A bat found in a Plainfield backyard is Will County’s eighth confirmed case of wildlife rabies this year. According to the Will County Health Department, the infected animal was found by a resident in the 24000 block of Brown Lane, but no humans were exposed to the disease. The resident spotted the bat behind his home and noticed that it had difficulty flying. The bat was captured using a net and trapped inside a bucket while Will County Animal Control was notified. Rabid Bat Found in Joliet Apartment

Health department officials say it was one of two that made its way in; tenant urged to get rabies treatment.

The bats were taken to Will County Animal Control and then shipped to the …

A second bat in Bolingbrook has tested positive for rabies, Will County officials say. According to a release from the Will County Health Department, a bat that fell from a tree near a Bolingbrook home has become Will County’s second confirmed case of wildlife rabies for 2011.  The bat was discovered at a home on Sundance Drive on June 21. The bat subsequently tested for rabies the next day at the Illinois Department of Public Health. The man that discovered the bat touched the animal and then stepped on it, the release said. The Will County Health Department has recommended post-exposure rabies prophylaxis for the man who touched the bat. No other human exposures were identified, the release said.  On May 24, the county’s first confirmed …
