Letter: Vote 'Em Out — Not Shoot 'Em Out

Send letters to the editor to Shannon.Antinori@patch.com.

Let’s get real: It’s time American society recognizes that lack of meaningful regulation with respect to the AVAILABILITY of certain types of guns and ammunition is a major contributing factor to shooting deaths.  Even the majority of National Rifle Association members favor sensible measures to keep assault weapons, high-capacity magazines, body armor-piercing, jacketed and hollow point ammunition out of the wrong hands.  They know that NRA president Wayne LaPierre’s remedy of more guns is patently absurd!  He is little more than a well compensated lobbyist for the gun and ammunition industry, who disguises his venality with rants about “Second Amendment remedies”  and the necessity of  having “good guys with guns” to protect our civil …

Availability of guns has nothing to do with it, despite Mr. Bible's rant. Gun control fails on many levels: http://www.randywakeman.com/WhyGunControlJustDied.htm . Invariably, the 2.1 million uses of a firearm to prevent or thwart crime is never mentioned. Although the "mythical assault rifles" are mentioned again and again, the facts show that bare fists take more lives. Trevor Burrus, a …   more ›

Letter: Candidate Responds to Ad

Send letters to the editor to shannon.antinori@patch.com.

At first, my Republican opposition tried the innovative tactic of candidate suppression directed at me. When the attempt to keep me off the ballot failed, they resorted to the hackneyed tactics of suppression of my freedom of speech! This took the form of an intimidating telephone call from John Argoudelis to one of my supporters to remove my campaign sign from the latter’s property, followed by wholesale theft of my signs. Now, just a few days before the election, my opposition has sent out a direct mailing that employs a tactic that has come to typify the Republican Party: distortion of the opponent’s position. Of course, this is done with a combination of omissions and taking parts of sentences out of context. The mail piece in question…

Letter: 'Headed in the Right Direction'

Reader speaks out on local elections.

I recently read an article about Reed Bible who planned on giving back 10 percent of his wage if he was elected back to the county, in order to help county programs. I read today that candidate Natalie Manley wants to make 10 percent cuts herself to the legislation. I don't know if they are working together, but it is so refreshing to see that there are decent people who are politicians out there. I feel like Reed Bible has come up with this new refreshing idea for our politicians, and that is to actually help the people. If there were more politicians in this county that felt the need to help people out in need then I feel like we would be so much better off. There are increases in taxes and property value keeps going down. People call …

Candidate Vows to Donate Portion of His Salary

If elected, Will County board contender Reed Bible said he will return 10 percent of his pay back to the county.

It’s no secret that, despite some signs of an economic rebound, times are still tough in Will County. One candidate said he’s planning to do his part to give back to the community if voters choose him in the November election. Plainfield resident Reed Bible wants to represent the newly redrawn District 5 on the Will County board. He’s facing Republican incumbents Lee Ann Goodson and John Argoudelis on the Nov. 6 ballot — and only two will win seats on the board. Bible, who has lived in Plainfield for the past decade, said this is his first run for polticial office. “I’ve always been politically oriented,” he said. “I always was interested in social justice issues and had an eye on local politics.” But as a federal employee — Bible served …

I agree with conservative!! Giving back part of your salary isn't really a new idea. Legislators have been foregoing pay raises in an effort to make them look like the "Knight in Shining Armor". It is a ploy or scam that is used to make you think they really care, but they will make that money back with fundraisers, and other perk of the job!! Mr. Bible states he will focus on improving the …   more ›

Letter: Reader Supports Reed Bible

The candidate is running for Will County Board District 5 in the Nov. 6 election.

A few weeks ago, your newspaper printed a story about eight Democrats who were kicked off the Will County Board elections ticket. Out of those eight candidates, only one managed to get back onto the ballot and that was Reed Bible.      Reed Bible is a resident of Plainfield and a retired attorney, who also worked as a supervisory special agent for Homeland Security. He and his wife have been very active within the Plainfield community, including involvement with the Obama for America campaign, Better Government Association, Habitat for Humanity, Literacy DuPage and Democrats for Will County. We need someone like Reed Bible. He feels that there are many ways to improve the way Will County can serve its residents, both the present population…

Maybe it is because Meet the Press, Face the Nation, or This Week with Stephanopolous, don't have alot of respect for him either. George Stephanopolous was political advisor, and Senior Advisor for Policy and Strategy for Bill Clinton!! I would say that qualifies him as a good Democratic reference, and that he might not have Obama on his Christmas card list.   more ›
