Details on how the head-on collision occurred were not available Friday, but the injuries could have been far more serious were it not for airbags, deputy fire chief says.
Two men were transported to the hospital Friday afternoon following a head-on collision on Route 59, just north of 135th Street. One victim, listed in stable condition, was taken to Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora; the other was taken to Edward Hospital Plainfield for observation, Plainfield Fire Protection Deputy Chief Jon Stratton said. The accident occurred near the entrances to Menards and Jewel-Osco sometime after 4:30 p.m., Stratton said. He wasn't certain how the accident occurred, but three cars -- a 2001 Honda Civic, 2002 Chevy Malibu and a 2001 Infinity G20 -- were involved, two of which sustained "heavy damage," he said. Had it not been for airbags, the injuries would have been far more severe, Stratton said. The driver of…

Police say the afternoon snow likely played a role in the collision in which Cindy Borgra's minivan crossed into the opposite lane of oncoming traffic.
A 51-year-old Plainfield woman was killed Thursday afternoon after her minivan crossed into an oncoming lane of traffic in Oswego and was struck by a semi track trailer, Oswego police said. Icy, snowy conditions are believed to have contributed to the accident in which Cindy Borgra, 23420 W. Link Lane, was critically injured, police said. Borgra was transported to Rush-Copley Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. The accident occurred at about 2:30 p.m. on U.S. 30, west of Goodwin Drive. Borgra was driving east on U.S. 30 when her minivan went into the opposite lane and was struck by a truck driven by Joe Clark, 68, of Oswego, Detective Rob Sherwood said.
