Killer Christopher Vaughn Will Get Life For Taking 4 Lives

Vaughn was convicted this summer of killing his wife and three children in a desperate attempt to free himself from responsibilities and start a new life.

Instead, he will be starting a new life in prison, and he will be staying there until he dies. Vaughn, 38, faces an automatic life sentence for killing his wife, 34-year-old Kimberly Vaughn, and three children—Blake, 8, Cassandra, 11, and Abigayle, 12—in June 2007. The Oswego man will still go through what is expected to be a lengthy sentencing hearing today. Members of Kimberly Vaughn's family are scheduled to testify. Police: Assailants Targeted Apartment in Main Street Shooting

Plainfield officials say incident that left one shot, one beaten was not a random act.

Plainfield police continue to investigate an Aug. 14 altercation that sent one man to the hospital with a gunshot wound and left another beaten, and said they believe the three assailants specifically targeted the apartment in the 24000 block of Main Street. Cmdr. Kevin Greco said it was anything but random when three men entered the apartment around 1 a.m. Tuesday. “Do we believe it was targeted? Yes,” he said. Sign up for Plainfield Patch's daily newsletter and breaking news alerts. Police are following up on leads and working to determine how the suspects, two of whom were wearing bandanas over their faces and brandishing firearms, got into the apartment. “There were no signs of forced entry,” Greco said, leading police to believe …

Funny....the Marybrook "burglaries" weren't reported in the patch. That's kind of a big crime to leave unreported. Or maybe they never called the police at all because the residents knew the offenders. Or maybe someone is just lying. And being that I haven't heard about any new cops being hired in YEARS, the youngest cop wouldn't be a day younger than 28, I bet.   more ›

Moving Forward: A Year After Shooting, a Mother and Daughter Rebuild

Linda Wyns and daughter Samantha Falbo are recovering, looking to the future, according to relative.

It was an anniversary of sorts, but not the kind you’d celebrate. July 12 marked one year since police say Albert Jonas shot his wife and stepdaughter in their home in Plainfield's Liberty Grove subdivision. Samantha Falbo, then 25, was shot in the head. Her mom, Linda, 62, suffered gunshots to her chest and leg. “[Samantha] doesn’t want to relive it,” said Tina Falbo, Samantha’s sister and Linda’s older daughter. Tina has served as a family spokesperson and guardian for her sister since the July 2011 shooting. “She’s very positive in spirit,” Tina said. “We choose as a family to move forward.” Now 26, Samantha is doing just that. After a monthlong stay at Rush-Copley Hospital in Aurora and an inpatient stint at Marianjoy Rehabilitation …
