All temporary lane closures have been canceled from 9 a.m. today through 7 a.m. Thursday.
The Illinois Tollway is preparing to mobilize its full fleet of 182 snowplows in response to sleet and snow that has already started and is expected to continue overnight into Wednesday around the Chicagoland area, according to a press release. “Our Snow Operations team is monitoring this storm closely and is prepared to manage snowfall throughout the day,” Kristi Lafleur, executive director, Illinois Tollway, said in a statement. “We ask our customers to be patient, drive safely and give our snowplows the room they need to clear the roads, especially during this evening’s rush hour.” Northern Illinois is expected to get 3 to 6 inches of snow from noon until 9 p.m. Some areas could see totals greater than 6 inches should thundersnow …

Snow is expected to taper off overnight.
While the National Weather Service has issued winter weather advisory in nearby counties including DuPage, the snow is expected to taper off to a few flurries overnight in Plainfield, according to Weather.com. By 4 a.m., the forecast calls for snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches in Will County. Monday is expected to be mostly cloudy with snow showers with up to a half-inch of acculumlation in the morning and a high of around 25 degrees.

The National Weather Service says up to three inches of snow could fall Thursday night.
The National Weather Service in Romeoville is predicting accumulating snow Thursday night into Friday Morning for the Plainfield area. The forecast estimates up to three inches of snow. "A fast-moving weather system will bring a period of snow to the area from later tonight into Friday morning," The National Weather Service said in a written release. "Snow will develop from west to east after midnight and taper off from the west early to mid-Friday morning." The snowless streak has broken a 1940 record of 319 days. No snow is expected in the immediate future.
With no snow in sight, Wednesday is expected to be the 320th consecutive day without at least an inch of snowfall in the Chicago area. That breaks the record of 319 days previously set in 1940. Chicago is expected to continue to set new records with no snow in the forecast. Only 1.3 inches have fallen so far this winter, according to the Chicago Tribune. Village staff has plan in place to deal with snowfall.
The weather has been mild — and even unseasonably warm on a few recent days — but make no mistake: winter is coming. The Village of Plainfield says it’s ready for a snowfall, and is reminding residents of its snowplowing procedures, which go into effect anytime there is a snowfall. In addition to the village's existing overnight parking policy — which prohibits on-street parking between 1 and 6 a.m. year-round — parking is prohibited on Plainfield streets any time snow reaches a depth of three or more inches until the streets have been plowed and the snow has been removed. Plainfield School District 202 has canceled all of its afterschool and evening programs because the ongoing snowstorm, which is expected to continue through the night. Among the activities called off are athletic practices and contests, club meetings, rehearsals and all park district-sponsored programs that use school district facilities. More cold, snowy weather is headed this way, according to the National Weather Service, which is saying there's a 100 percent chance of the white stuff falling throughout the day and night Friday. As of right now, the prediction is there will be 3 to 5 inches of snow before it's finished. About a third of the people affected by blizzard power outages didn't get the emergency warning because they don't have landlines, officials say.
Some Plainfield residents who don’t have a landline telephone were left out in the cold during the recent blizzard. A reverse 911 phone chain that sent an automated recorded phone message warning residents about possible power outages and advising them how to get to shelter did not reach more than a third of Plainfield households because they only have cell phones, Plainfield officials say. The reverse 911 system, a Will County-sponsored emergency program, automatically sends pre-recorded messages during crisis situations.
