Sheriff Identifies Man Who Committed Suicide in Courthouse Parking Lot

Police identify 52-year-old John Marcus Lundberg of Yorkville as the victim of a self-inflicted gunshot.

The Kendall County Sheriff's Office identified the man who publicly committed suicide at the Kendall County Courthouse last week as 52-year-old John Marcus Lundberg of Yorkville. A motive for the public display though has yet to be determined, said Deputy Craig French, spokesman for the Sheriff's office. "That's something that we're still looking into," he said Monday afternoon. Video surveillance from the Kendall County Courthouse showed Lundberg putting a shotgun to his head and firing a single shot Friday afternoon at approximately 1:46 p.m. Lundberg, who was by himself at the time, parked his car on the far west side of the parking lot, according to police. "At this point, we do not have any record that he had any criminal or civil …

This is my boyfriend's grandfather, and I barely have a right to extrapolate on it. Please don't turn this into something it's not. God knows that Grandpa Lundberg deserves to rest in peace without people making up their own reasons.   more ›

I am not saying the man was a criminal (as a few people have said). I suspected he may have been aggressively prosecuted for something relatively minor and indeed he was. It turns out the man was charged with 3 "crimes" about 2 years ago, all misdemeanors. I don't understand the charges, but it had to do with burying an animal on his property. Maybe his dog died or something. He also went through…   more ›

Plainfield Man Kills Himself Before Teen Sex Solicitation Sentencing

John Martynus was arrested in Crete after exchanging sexually explicit messages with someone he thought was a 13-year-old girl.

A Plainfield man who was to plead guilty today to soliciting a 13-year-old girl for sex has committed suicide. According to a report published in the Chicago Tribune, the attorney for John Martynus told the judge that his client would not be attending the hearing. Donald DeWilkins said he had been informed of the death by Martynus' father, the story said. Blog: Insomnia and Suicide -- One Woman's Tale

Grief can cause sleeplessness, but is the cure worth the potential side effects?

I once heard a very interesting statement about those who commit suicide while on anti-depressants or other medications. It was said that someone who is deeply depressed is unlikely to kill themselves because they simply don't care enough or have enough energy to end their life. The medicine starts to make them feel better, but only to a point. That point is sometimes just enough to make them care about how depressed they are, and it is at that point that they are at the highest risk for suicidal ideation or worse, suicidal behavior. What is even more alarming is the number of people who have contemplated, attempted or committed suicide who were not even suffering from depression. They had insomnia, and were given prescriptions for …
