Free Tax Assistance for Qualifying Households in Plainfield

Services are offered Saturdays at State Rep. Tom Cross' Plainfield office.

Plainfield-area residents can take advantage of a program that offers free tax preparation to qualifying households now through April. The Tax Assistance Program (TAP) provides free tax return prepartion to individuals who earn up to $20,000 per year and householdsl with total incomeof up to $45,000. In Plainfield, TAP is offered at State Rep. Tom Cross' office, 24047 W. Lockport St., on Saturdays in February, March and April. For more information on TAP, click here to view a brochure.

Business Extends Service Hours During Tax Season

Liberty Tax Services will offer additional hours through Feb. 5.

Editor's note: The following is a press release issed by Liberty Tax Service. Beginning Jan. 28, Liberty Tax Service will extend operating hours to 6 a.m. until midnight seven days a week. Some Liberty Tax locations will be open 24 hours, providing round-the-clock service for taxpayers. These accommodating hours will continue through Feb. 5, 2013. Since the IRS moved the date to begin processing individual income tax returns, the vast majority of tax filers -- more than 120 million households -- should be able to start filing tax returns starting Jan. 30. But that doesn’t mean taxpayers have to wait until that deadline to have their returns prepared. Liberty Tax Service is already preparing tax returns and has extended their hours to …

When Can I File My 2012 Tax Return?

The IRS has announced a delayed start to the 2012 tax filing season. Here's the date of when you can file, plus some locations in Ferndale to get help on your taxes.

You'll have to wait if you are used to filing your annual tax return at the earliest possible date. The Internal Revenue Service has revised its opening date for tax season — pushing it back eight days to Jan. 30, 2013. The tax filing deadline is Monday, April 15, 2013. The IRS will begin accepting tax returns on Jan. 30, 2013. Most taxpayers should be able to file on that date, though some revised forms may not be immediately available. You can blame the delay on the federal "fiscal cliff" crisis and the new tax bill Congress passed just after Dec. 31. You can find more information in this Forbes article. Wacky Dancing at Liberty Tax Can Lead to Good Things

Two marketing managers say being "flag spinners" led to their careers with the tax preparation company.

Who would have thought a stint as a sign spinner would be a career path to marketing executive? It happened for not one but two marketing managers at Liberty Tax Service at 16310 S. Lincoln Highway in Plainfield.  I stopped to chat with Derek Graf, who was dancing and waving at an exhausting pace along the shoulder of U.S. 30. His blue-green Statue of Liberty robe waved wildly in the breeze and I wondered how many hair pins it took to make that crown stay put on his bobbing head.  Graf plucked his headphones from his ears and shouted enthusiastically when I asked him how he liked this kind of work.  “I love it!”  he said. “It’s like getting paid for dancing and having fun.”  What was he listening to?  “Christian music,” he said. “I love it…
