Help the Plainfield YMCA, Boy Scouts Make Thanksgiving Happy for Local Families

Nonperishable food drive is now through Nov 18 at Greater Joliet Area YMCA locations; donations at the Plainfield location benefit the Plainfield Interfaith Food Pantry.

It’s hard to believe, but the holidays are right around the corner. To celebrate the season of giving, the Greater Joliet Area YMCA is banding together with the Boy Scouts of America Rainbow Council to help collect food to provide Thanksgiving meals to area families in need. Proceeds from the non-perishable food drive, which ends Nov. 18, will benefit three local food pantries. Donations left at Plainfield’s C.W. Avery Family YMCA, 15120 Wallin Dr., will go directly to the Plainfield Interfaith Food Pantry, according to Director of Marketing and Community Relations Carolyn Hamilton. Area residents can leave donations in drop boxes in the Plainfield YMCA lobby during regular hours: 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday; 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. …

Letter: Wheatland Sponsors 2012 Thanksgiving Food Drive

Township will collect items to help feed families in need this Thanksgiving.

In an effort to support families in Wheatland Township, that are experiencing difficulty, we are hosting a Thanksgiving food drive. The food drive will be initiated November 5th and will run through November 16, 2012. We are hoping to provide a full meal to all our participants so they can start out the holiday season with a wonderful holiday meal. Some of the items we will be collecting are: boxed stuffing, canned yams, boxed mashed potatoes, cans of cranberry sauce, corn or green beans, Heat-n-Serve rolls, turkey gravy/mix or canned olives. Gift cards will also be accepted so that we can purchase pumpkin pies and any additional food stuffs needed for the completion of the meals. Other drop-off points for the food drive in Wheatland …
