Gary Fitzgerald joins three others who say they are or may be candidates in the 2012 Republican primary.
Shorewood Village trustee Gary Fitzgerald is the fourth candidate to announce interest in running as a Republican for the newly created 49th District Illinois Senate seat. He joins a field in which Plainfield Village trustee Garrett Peck has already announced his election plans and Tony Giles, an Oswego village trustee, and Robert Kalnicky, a Fountaindale Library Board member, have formed exploratory committees. Thus far, no Democrats have publicly announced they are running in the 2012 primary. Fitzgerald, a 10-year, three-term Shorewood Village Board member, is a senior management administrator for a major health plan, former president of the Will County Board of Health and former director of criminal justice planning for the city of …

The Plainfield village trustee said he sought the support of a lot of different groups before tossing his hat into the ring for the Republican nomination.
Plainfield Trustee Garrett Peck formally announced Friday that he will be a Republican candidate for the 49th District state Senate seat in 2012. Peck, 32, a Plainfield Village Board member since 2009, said he's been reaching out to all parts of the new district -- which includes all of Plainfield and Shorewood, parts of Oswego and Romeoville, and a very small section of Bolingbrook -- to determine the strength of his support base. "The vast majority of the precinct committeemen have endorsed me and agreed to be on my team," he said. "Overall, we've put together a serious campaign plan that shows we're very organized. We have a Hispanic outreach committee, a veterans outreach committee, a seniors outreach committee, a (parent and schools) …

Decision predicated upon the new redistricting map proposal, which was released last week.
Plainfield Village Trustee Garrett Peck said he is considering a run for the state Senate district representing Plainfield and the surrounding area. Peck, 32, a Republican, said he is putting together an exploratory committee to be headed by former state Sen. Ed Petka, who also served in the Illinois House and as Will County state’s attorney. One key factor in his decision is whether the redistricting plan currently under consideration by the General Assembly remains as it’s now shown, Peck said. Under that map, current state Sen. Linda Holmes – a Democrat who represents the 42nd District – would see her district moved further south, he said. The proposed 49th District would include all of Plainfield as well as parts of Shorewood, …

No question new office space is needed but Karl Karantonis questions the need to build new when an existing building would be less expensive.
While some Wheatland Township officials are already dreaming of the day they'll move out of their garage digs and into a new home, others are saying hold your U-Haul. Since the 1970s, Wheatland Township -- which encompasses about a third of the village of Plainfield -- has done business in makeshift office space carved out of a building once used to house trucks for the township highway department. “Right now we meet in an old pole building,” township Supervisor Todd Morse said. “Years ago, the highway commissioner gave up a bay to house the board.” The township highway department moved into a new facility at 4232 Tower Court in Naperville in July 2009. Now, the township board is on track to do the same. Ground could be broken this …

Letter encourages voters to support a referendum on the issue and urges Plainfield Village Board members to reconsider their positions.
Since many hear only part of the stories in regards to what takes place in local government, here are some facts and opinions for the public’s review. 1) Fact: The Plainfield village voters could have a choice whether or not their trustees and mayor have a three consecutive term limit at zero cost to the taxpayers. 2) Fact: Incumbents can be grandfathered in so they would be allowed 12 additional years moving forward. 3) Fact: This can be a yes/no question placed on a general election ballot so the most voices can be heard from the public. 4) Fact: You can contact your village trustees and ask them to please reconsider. It takes four trustees to vote in favor of the issue to move forward. http://www.plainfield‐il.org/government/…

Plainfield Village Trustee Garrett Pecks offers a small history lesson in how things have changed in township government the last four decades.
I was chatting with Plainfield Village Trustee Garrett Peck the other day about all things township, and he brought up something I didn't know. Township supervisor, as far as he knows, is the only elected Illinois official allowed to hold dual elected positions in local government, he said. Township and village trustees, for example, cannot serve on the county board. If they're elected to one, he said, they must give up the other. That wasn't always the case. Until the rules were changed during the 1970 Illinois State Constitutional Convention, sitting on the county board was actually one of the mandated duties of township supervisor. Convention delegates agreed that things had to change -- the potential for conflict and corruption was …

Still, one has to question the mindset of a politician who has yet to win a competitive election and then has a "joint" press conference with a potential opponent...that's all. We will all have to wait and see what transpires as the election cycle unfolds.   more ›
