The final scores: 25-22, 22-25, 25-10. Wildcats explode in finale after two tough opening games.
After two very competitive back-and-forth games, the denouement to the third was a disappointment by comparison. The Neuqua Valley Wildcats, after splitting the first two games 25-22, 22-25 with the Plainfield North Tigers, jumped to an early lead and sent the Tigers into a perpetual freefall, winning the deciding game 25-10. The Wildcats (24-5) controlled most of game one. They led 11-7 early before a Tigers (20-4) timeout pulled them back even. From then on, the Tigers kept clawing their way out of one-and-two point deficits until they made three unforced serving errors down the stretch, securing the game one win. Game two was game one in reverse. The Tigers, led by Jack Krieger and Jack Barber, were able to control the lead for …

Tigers' 6-3 middle blocker part of Boilermakers' elite volleyball recruiting class.
For some time, Plainfield North's Kaisley Fisher has been considered a big-time volleyball talent. Now, she is part of a big-time recruiting class, too. Fisher, a 6-foot-3 middle blocker, was one of three girls to sign with Purdue on Wednesday. The Boilermakers' class also included two members of PrepVolleyball.com's list of the Top 50 recruits from the Class of 2011—Kierra "Kiki" Jones, a 6-1 middle blocker from Fishers, Ind., and Valerie "Val" Nichol, a 6-1 setter/hitter from Normal. Fisher was listed among the "next 30" on PrepVolleyball.com's recruiting report. And all three girls were mentioned among the website's 250 Senior Aces. "I am very excited about the possibilities of this class," Purdue coach Dave Shondell said in a news …

Two Wildcat sports standouts -- Derrick Marks, Alexis Rapp -- will be playing in Division I programs.
Plainfield Central seniors Derrick Marks and Alexis Rapp plan on studying accounting and culinary arts in college. That's pretty ironic since they've cooked up some pretty impressive numbers during their boys basketball and girls volleyball careers. The two signed national letters of intent on signing day Wednesday. Marks, a 6-foot-2 swingman, will play basketball at Boise State University in Boise, Idaho. Rapp, a setter, will continue her career at Robert Morris University in Chicago. This season, Rapp had 367 assists, 100 digs and 19 aces for the Wildcats. "Alexis has done a great job of filling the role of setter this year," Plainfield Central coach Jessica Kinsella said. "She did a good job running our offense, she communicated very …

Time for state hopefuls to make net gains.
1. Benet Academy (29-6): The top-seeded Redwings open in the Class 4A Downers Grove South Regional on Thursday; they'll face the host Mustangs or Romeoville at 7:30 p.m. Watch for Alyson Farm, Lara Ontko and Jenna Jendryk to set the pace for Benet--just as they did during the stretch run. The Redwings placed second in the East Suburban Catholic Conference and scored tune-up victories last week over Bishop McNamara, Neuqua Valley and Fenwick. 2. Joliet Catholic Academy (28-7): Senior Lainey Wyman and juniors Kelly Feigh and Lauren Robertson were named to the all-conference team in the East Suburban Catholic after leading the Angels to a third-place finish. Wyman already has set a JCA single-season record with 94 block kills. Feigh has 266 …

Questionable call ends Southwest Prairie Conference volleyball clash between Wildcats and Bengals.
It didn't take long for Plainfield Central's girls to line up to shake hands with the officials after a 25-18, 22-25, 26-24 Southwest Prairie Conference loss Thursday at Plainfield East. Moments earlier, the officials miscounted and called the Wildcats for four hits, which gave the deciding point in the third game to the Bengals. It was a show of sportsmanship and class by the Wildcats, who are coached by Jessica Clark, who is in her first season. Of the Wildcats seven conference losses, six of them have come in three games. "This is a big step for us," Plainfield East assistant coach Amanda Ziemer said. "They've worked really hard and have been fighting through. That's what they did tonight." "We beat our rivals and anytime you do that, …

Tigers earn split of season series with Plainfield East in volleyball thriller.
Both coaches talked about what could have been after Plainfield North's 25-18, 25-27, 25-20 Southwest Prairie Conference girls volleyball victory over Plainfield East Tuesday night at North. For the Tigers, they failed to win in two games after winning the first one for the seventh time in 10 three-game decisions this season. For the Bengals, they pushed the Tigers to a third game, but fizzled down the stretch. "We have moments of greatness," Plainfield East coach Sara Thomas said. "It's too bad it can't be more consistent." "It's still our mental focus," Plainfield North coach Tracy Marshall said of the reason for the Tigers' problems in second games this season. "I'm disappointed with what we put on the floor tonight. Our expectations …

Coach has Angels riding high; Benet looks toward volleyball rematch and Lemont holds down No. 3 slot in weekly poll.
1. Joliet Catholic Academy (23-4): Throw Christine Scheibe's name into the hat for consideration as IHSVCA Coach of the Year. Scheibe has worked her magic again. The Angels rallied from a 23-16 deficit in Game 2 to defeat Benet (25-16, 27-25) in the title match at the Mizuno Cup. And, who woulda thunk it? JCA ranked No. 1? The Angels graduated six seniors after winning the Class 3A state championship, including Wisconsin recruit Annemarie Hickey. 2. Benet (20-6): Junior Jenna Jendryk led the Redwings to victory in an epic three-set battle with St. Charles East (25-23, 21-25, 37-35). Jendryk pounded down 21 kills in the semifinal match at the Mizuno Cup. Benet ran out of gas and dropped the championship match to JCA. The two East …

Benet rates nod over East Suburban Catholic rival JCA for No. 1 spot in weekly poll; Lemont has talent to make run in state playoffs.
1. Benet (16-4): Grace Giradot had 14 kills in the Redwings' 25-10, 25-18 victory over Providence Catholic on Thursday. Lara Ontko added seven kills. Virginia Tech recruit Jenna Jendryk chipped in six kills. Benet concludes play at the Marian Catholic Tournament Tuesday, and then faces Marist on Wednesday. 2. Joliet Catholic Academy (16-3): Sophomore outside hitter Morgan Reardon stepped to the fore with five kills and one stuff block in the third game of the Angels' 25-18, 29-31, 25-22 victory over Wheaton St. Francis in the 11th-place match at the Asics Challenge. The two perennial powers met for the fifth time in five years and the first time in regular-season play. JCA took a 3-2 lead in the series. Senior middle Lainey Wyman …

The Tigers push their overall record to 9-6 with a straight-sets victory in Suburban Prairie Conference play.
While lightning outside canceled Plainfield North's boys soccer game against Planfield East, bolts of a different sort struck inside the Tiger gymnasium during a Southwest Prairie Conference girls volleyball matchup between Plainfield North and Oswego. The Tigers wasted little time gaining control of the match, striking early and often for a 25-10, 25-19 victory. Plainfield North started fast in the first game and never looked back to run its record to 9-6 overall and 3-2 in the SPC. "That's a focal point for the year," Plainfield North coach Tracey Marshall said. "I saw at the beginning of the season we were not a mentally tough team. That's something we've been working on in practice a lot – putting them in stressful situations and they …

Head coach Tracey Marshall, players offer insight into upcoming Plainfield North volleyball season.
After just five years of competition, Plainfield North High School's Tigers have established themselves as a girls volleyball powerhouse in the Suburban Prairie Conference, winning three conference trophies. This year, a new coach — Tracey Marshall, an experienced volleyball player and coach — is at the helm. A graduate of Downers Grove South High School, Marshall played volleyball for the University of Illinois Fighting Illini and at the professional level. She has coached in Bettendorf, Iowa, at Downers Grove South High School and for several club teams. She brings a wealth of experience to the team that has her players excited. "I love Coach Marshall and the work ethic she brings to the team," senior Hannah Crippen said. "We're …
