Speed Warning Signs No Deterrent for 95 Drivers

Police issued other tickets on Speed Awareness Day, including people driving without insurance or with suspended licenses.

Apparently signs up and down Route 59 warning drivers to "slow down" failed to have the desired effect on 95 drivers who were ticketed last week on Speed Awareness Day. The Plainfield Police Department reports they issued 93 tickets for speeding and two for speeding in a construction zone Wednesday despite warning signs being posted all along Route 59 and an electronic billboard set up on Route 59 near 119th Street, traffic Sgt. Eric Munson said in a media release. Speed Awareness Day was conducted by the police in conjunction with faces4.org, a nonprofit group dedicated to educating the public about the dangers of speeding. The organization paid for the signs and distributed literature throughout the day. Clear Channel Communications …

We cannot be too comfortable with any administrators or any other adults who spend continuous amounts of time with our children. We must teach them to be aware and respectful to their coaches and instructors, teachers and the like, but also what signs to look out for concerning pedophilia. This is disheartening to say the least and pray for the healing of the child he MOLESTED. God's peace and …   more ›

About Town

River Road's "Curve" an Accident Magnet but Fix Not Easy

Speed bumps would help, neighbors say, but the problem is the road is part of the county on one side and part of the village on the other.

Plainfield people call it "The Curve." It's the hairpin twist on River Road between River Court and Legion Hall, not far from Plainfield Central High School, that has been the spot of "zillions" of auto accidents for decades, says Judi Medveskas, who lives nearby. Last Sunday morning, she saw a mutilated kid's bike and got a sickening feeling. The Curve is right in front of Colleen Stueckrad's house, where she's lived since 1997. If it's raining, Colleen will see three or so accidents a day. One weekend last month, she saw eight accidents. In May, a man was killed on a motorcycle there. "It was really sad," Colleen said. Colleen is the one who gets to call authorities to come out for these crashes. First, she has to figure out who to call…
