Darel Agerton said his grandmother was unconscious when he found her, but evidence shows she was strangled and beaten, the Will County Sheriff's Office says.
A Joliet man who police say beat and strangled his 90-year-old grandmother just one day after being released from prison has been charged with first-degree murder. Darel C. Agerton, 38, was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon for the Nov. 30 death of Veronica R. Schick, whose unconscious body was found on the floor of her 109 Jessie St. home, according to the Will County Sheriff's Office. Agerton listed Schick's address as his residence. The president of a Minnesota aviation service business was in the plane that crashed in a Wilton Center field.
The man killed in the Tuesday afternoon plane crash in a Wilton Center field was the president of a Minnesota aviation service business. Larry Diffley, 74, was the sole occupant of the multi-engine Beech 58 that went down shortly after 2:30 p.m. Diffley operated Bemidji Aviation Services in Bemidji, MN. According to the company's website, Diffley and another man took over the business "with three employees, their own Cessna 150 and the three 150's already in place at Bemidji Aviation" in 1970. A parent donated and planted the trees himself last fall, and less than six months later, they're all gone, officials say.
Last September, a parent donated six trees to Lakewood Falls Elementary School. He even went as far as to plant them himself around the school's playground area. Around Christmas time, two or three of the trees were stolen, Plainfield School District 202 spokesman Tom Hernandez said. Last week, the rest were taken. The parent, whose name was not disclosed, called the Will County Sheriff's Office on Feb. 23 to report the theft. Hernandez said the trees were only three or four feet high, and likely easily pulled from the ground since they had been planted only a couple of months earlier.
