Ménage à Trois Big This New Year's Eve (Get Your Mind Out of the Gutter!)

The blended wine that combines cabernet, merlot and zinfandel is selling big at area liquor stores, as is muscato and "boutique" beverages.

This New Year's Eve, ménage à trois is the trend.  We speak of the wine, of course. The blend of cabernet, merlot and zinfandel, named Market Watch 2010 brand of the Year , is topping sales at Plainfield area liquor stores, says Thomas Czajczyk, owner of Route 30 Wine & Liquor at 14210 U.S. 30.   In fact, New Year's partiers are stocking up on all varieties of wines, a clerk at Discount Liquors told me.  On the white side, muscato is leading the cheer charts this year, Czajczyk said. Moscato, also known as muscadel, muscat, muscato and moscatel, sports a musky flavor and it's the base white wine in asti spumante, the sweet Italian sparkling wine.
