Business Incubator Center Flies with Village Board
The Business Evolution Center is being called an "experiment" in which the village will license village hall cubicle space to help fledgling companies get off the ground.
Small start-up businesses needing help to get launched will soon be able to turn to Plainfield's new Business Evolution Center, which won Plainfield Village Board approval Monday to use unoccupied space in village hall. A 4,000-square-foot section of the building, previously used by the village building department, will be divided into cubicles that can be rented for $100 a month by local residents who are creating a new business but do not yet have the means to lease office space. Participants will have to meet specific criteria and will sign a license agreement that allows them to use the space for a maximum of 18 months. Wouldn't a Plainfield museum, branch for the library, college extension or maybe a home for scouting programs be a little more community appropriate? Small businesses starting out of a home have tax deductions that a $100 cubicle outside of the home wouldn't offer. Maybe the voters booths could take up the extra floor place.....   more ›
