Plainfield Man Kills Himself Before Teen Sex Solicitation Sentencing

John Martynus was arrested in Crete after exchanging sexually explicit messages with someone he thought was a 13-year-old girl.

A Plainfield man who was to plead guilty today to soliciting a 13-year-old girl for sex has committed suicide. According to a report published in the Chicago Tribune, the attorney for John Martynus told the judge that his client would not be attending the hearing. Donald DeWilkins said he had been informed of the death by Martynus' father, the story said. Martynus, 40, of Scartlett Oak Drive, a Will County youth mental health advisor and a high school sports coach/referee, was arrested in December 2010 by the Crete Police Department and charged with indecent solicitation of a minor and traveling to meet a minor. Police said Martynus was in Beecher to referee a game and had contacted someone he thought to be a 13-year-old girl to meet him …
