Man Arrested in Plainfield Shooting

A second suspect is behind bars and facing multiple felony charges in connection with an Aug. 14 shooting and home invasion in Plainfield.

Ryan Beattie, 20, of the 700 block of Winterberry in Joliet, was arrested Saturday by Joliet police, accused of shooting a man in the chest during an armed robbery at an apartment in the 24000 block of Main Street. His arrest came nearly a week after police nabbed one of his alleged accomplices, 18-year-old Anthony Wilkinson, also of Joliet.

Plainfield police obtained arrest warrants for both men earlier this month after what officials called a “lengthy and detailed investigation.”

According to police, three men burst into the apartment around 1 a.m. Aug. 14, demanding drugs and money. Witnesses said two of the home invaders were wearing bandanas over their faces and carrying guns, police said.

During a struggle inside the apartment, one resident was punched in the face several times by one of the assailants, police said. Another resident pursued the three suspects as they fled and was shot in the upper chest after scuffling with one of them in the vestibule of the apartment building, according to police.

Beattie was booked on four counts of home invasion, aggravated battery with a firearm, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and residential burglary, according to Will County jail records. Bond was set at $1 million.

Wilkinson was charged with residential burglary and remained in custody on $75,000 bond Sunday night.

Last week, Plainfield police said they were still working to identify a third suspect in the case. Sgt. Kevin McQuaid said the incident was not random, adding police believe the Main Street apartment was targeted by the suspects.
