Tatum, Kunis to Be Shooting Film Here Through Next Week

Actors Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis are filming at an old farmhouse in Minooka, but the road there is closed when they're filming, officials said.

Movie stars will be in our midst through at least the middle of next week, but they may be about as hard to see as shooting stars unless you're willing to wait long hours in cornfields or outside a school for a glimpse.

While locals had some luck seeing actors Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis on the first day of shooting here Monday, it's unlikely they'll be as lucky when the pair are shooting scenes for "Jupiter Ascending" at a rural Minooka farmhouse.

Phil Smith, a commander with the Kendall County Sheriff's Office, said his department was hired to handle traffic control around the dilapidated farmhouse on Van Dyke Road, between Arbeiter and McKanna roads, where filming is taking place.

No traffic is allowed to go through on the road when they're filming, Smith said.

"We're assisting them with closing down the roadways while they're actually shooting so they can have quiet on the set," he said.

They are scheduled to be on site through Aug. 6, he said.

Which means you're either going to have to figure out how to go through the fields to check out the house from somewhere other than the road or hang out at Aux Sable School, 2001 Wildspring Parkway, Joliet, where they're feeding the stars and crew, storing equipment and doing makeup and costuming.

Rich Moskal, who ovesees the Chicago Film Office and has been keeping tabs on the shooting schedule in Chicago, said the production has been very organized and fairly successful at keeping things under wraps. They are to return to the city to resume shooting there on Aug. 10, and should be in town through Aug. 27, Moskal said.

Betsy Steinberg, managing director of the Illinois Film Office, said the team keeps her apprised of where they'll be but they've orchestrated many of their plans on this film without her help.

They've also been very careful about getting everyone involved to sign a confidentiality agreement to keep what they know under wraps, Steinberg said. It's very likely they're using local companies to do some aspects of the work, but she's not been told specifically who's doing what, she said.

One local woman involved with the production said her company did work months ago for film but she hasn't been able to say a word about it because of the contractual obligation.

"It's been a really hard to keep it to myself," she said.

According to IMDB.com, the movie's plot is as follows:

"Jupiter Jones was born under a night sky, with signs predicting that she was destined for great things. Now grown, Jupiter dreams of the stars but wakes up to the cold reality of a job cleaning toilets and an endless run of bad breaks. Only when Caine, a genetically engineered ex-military hunter, arrives on Earth to track her down does Jupiter begin to glimpse the fate that has been waiting for her all along - her genetic signature marks her as next in line for an extraordinary inheritance that could alter the balance of the cosmos."
