  • The increases, necessary to meet federal pricing and nutrition requirements, will be phased in over two years:

    • Elementary school lunches will cost $2.15 next year, and $2.30 in 2014-15, up from $2.05 this year
    • Middle school lunches will cost $2.25 this year and $2.40 in 2014-15; currently, they cost $2.15
    • High school lunches will cost $2.50 next fall, and $2.65 in 2014-15, up from $2.40 this year

Angela Smith, assistant superintendent for business and operations, said the increases are due to a federal requirement that school lunch pricing reaches a certain average amount over a 10-year period.

The lunch prices aren't the only increase. Food services provider Sodexho is increasing the price of its contract with District 202 by 2.5 percent.
