Edward Hospital/Elmhurst Memorial Merger Finalized

Edward Hospital & Health Services and Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare announced Monday that the merger between the two health systems has been finalized.

In a press release, the new health care system announced leadership appointments, but said a new name is still to be determined.

The merger creates one of the largest integrated health systems in the state, comprising three hospitals: Edward, which also has a Plainfield campus; Elmhurst Memorial and Linden Oaks at Edward. Combined, the three hospitals have revenues of about $1 billion and more than 50 outpatient locations across a service area of 1.7 million residents, according to a press release issued Monday by the companies.

The hospitals employ nearly 7,700 people and have more than 1,680 doctors on staff.

“This is an historic day for residents of our communities because it brings together and strengthens important community-focused institutions with long histories of serving the western and southwestern suburbs,” Edward CEO Pam Davis, who is now the CEO of the new system, said in a statement. “While Elmhurst Memorial and Edward are already nationally recognized for quality and patient satisfaction, our collaboration will lead to even higher quality, and improved services and efficiencies for our patients as we meet the challenges of healthcare reform.”

System leaders named

In May, Mary Lou Mastro was named president and CEO of Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare. Gina Sharp was promoted to president of Linden Oaks at Edward, replacing Mastro.

Davis also announced a new leadership team that includes Chris Mollet, system executive vice president and general counsel; and Vince Pryor, system executive vice president and chief financial officer.
