New Plainfield Bar Hosts Grand Opening

Renamed Kelly's Pub, the former Back Door Pub recently reopened under new owners.

May was a busy month for Kelly Ebner —actually, make that Kelly Dahms.

On May 11, she and boyfriend James Dahms tied the knot. Less than two weeks later, she purchased the former on Des Plaines Street, and less than a week after that, the new establishment — now know as — opened its doors for the first time.

“We actually only closed for Memorial Day,” Dahms said of the quick transition. The bar was closed on Sunday, May 27 and Monday, May 28, for some minor renovations before reopening on May 29.

After some freshening up, including repainting and hanging sports memorabilia and new big-screen TVs, the new business is now up and running.

“It’s more of a sports pub,” Dahms said of Kelly’s, which also serves food, including the house specialty, broasted chicken, along with burgers, appetizers and fried fish.

On Saturday, June 9, Kelly’s will host a grand opening event with live music and free hamburgers and hotdogs from 3 to 5 p.m., followed by karaoke from 8 p.m. until close.

Drink specials are $10 buckets of domestic beer and $4 UV bombs.

Bar manager Wayne, who didn’t give her last name, said the new Plainfield watering hole has already attracted a large karaoke crowd on Friday and Saturday nights.

Kelly’s currently has seven employees, and is looking to hire more waitstaff. To apply, contact Wayne by stopping in or calling 815-609-0000.
