Plainfield's OfficeMax Store to Close

The Route 59 store is one of 35 being shut as the Naperville-based company staves off declining sales.

Plainfield's store is one of 35 being closed by the Naperville-based office supply company.

Signs posted on the store's front windows give the grim news. The doors will close at the 13555 S. Route 59 location on March 31.

The company has been struggling to turn around two consecutive years of declining sales. According to OfficeMax's 2011 financial report issued last month via PRNewswire, sales were down by .4 percent in 2011 and .9 percent in 2010.

In November, the company announced it would be making changes to "strengthen its core," and part of its strategic plan would be to close nearly three dozen stores in the United States and one or two in Mexico in 2012.

The OfficeMax in Romeoville is also being closed; stores in Joliet and Bolingbrook will remain open.
