On the Road Again Offers Unique Goods in Plainfield Location

Nancy Plesha was a teenager when she started picking. She liked to find unique items initially she used to decorate her house with them. But today, she and business partner Jeanne Gartland decorate the rooms of their two locations of On the Road Again. The second location, at 24047 Lockport St., Suite 111 in Plainfield has been in town since March of this year.

"My partner's daughter lives here and once we got to the downtown area we said this looks like the spot for us," Plesha said about the Plainfield location.

The location, in a storefront down the street from the Plainfield Area Chamber of Commerce, allows the business partners to set up merchandise as though there were different rooms in the same home.

"People are happy we’re here," Plesha said. "They have been excited another place they can shop at in downtown Plainfield opened.

The business' flagshop location is in a home in Orland Park. The building, at 9925 W. 143rd St., has been occupied by a business by the ladies since 1997. Initially they owned a quilt shop.

"It’s in an old Victorian house; it’s quaint as heck," Plesha said. Although the spaces are different, there are some similarities.

"I think that the stores have a very similar feeling. The Plainfield store is broken up into several separate rooms or nooks just like this one is," Gartland said. "That makes it easier to display the things than it would be if you were in a strip mall box store.

"I think both of the places have kind of an organized and homey feeling to inspire people to redecorate or add to their decorations."

The Plainfield store is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.,  Tue, Wed, Thurs; and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.,  Mon, Fri, Sat, Sun.
