Which Wich Allows You To Design Your Own Sandwich

The new Plainfield eatery encourages customers to choose from a total of 51 different 'wiches, and 50 different toppings.

Customers who walk into Which Wich are greeted with a wall of sandwich bags. There are 10 categories and five different menu options. Customers enter and make their choices by checking selections on a bag instead of being pressured to make selections while standing in a line, gazing at a menu board.

Owner Jalpesh Patel, who owns the franchise with his sister, Charuti Patel, said the set up gives the customers time to think about what they really want and was one of the things that impressed him about the franchise when he visited one in Naperville. The location at 12720 S. Route 59 in Plainfield is the fifth location in Illinois. The Plainfield location opened June 20.

"We had a great response," Patel said.

As part of its grand opening festivities, Patel offered a free wich with a $1 donation to either Plainfield North High School or Plainfield East High School. The special ran for four days.

"We raised $1,000 combined for both schools," he said.

He wants to continue to partner with local schools in the future and make the restaurant a good community member.

"I think it's a great developing town," Patel said.

Although the chain does not offer gluten-free bread, they can make a gluten-free sandwich wrapped in lettuce, which they call a lettuce wich or can make a salad bowl. Among the most interesting menu items is grape jelly and powdered sugar and the most original sandwich is an Elvis wich, which is peanut butter, banana and honey.
